A rare rant from the gentle-mannored Ironic Catholic who is “flummoxed” by people dismissive of the idea of a culture of death.
Let me put it this way: I live a pretty charmed existence, (lower) middle class in the sedate Upper Midwest, with a lovely family and work I love. But I am also surrounded by people interested in slashing human dignity at every turn: hospitals that ask me with every pregnancy (for over two hours at the mandatory genetic questioning intake) are you sure you don’t want to kill your child, part of a Church where a majority of practitioners support torture, a country that increasingly encourages assisted suicide over being human and holding that person’s hand, a nation at war for reasons I *still* cannot understand, a neighborhood where a mother of a child with Down Syndrome had an acquaintance tell her (IN FRONT OF THE CHILD) “why didn’t you just abort him?”, a town where there are homeless families facing the “slow kill” of living on the street, and more. If this isn’t the culture of death, well, what the ^%(&%)# is? [Source]
Amen. A culture where biotech company Senomyx uses aborted fetal cells in the research and development of artificial flavor enhancers and work for companies like PepsiCo, Nestle, Kraft. They use human embryonic kidney cells taken from an electively aborted baby to produce taste receptors for testing.
I’m not much of one to join boycotts and besides I hate Pepsi, but also no longer consume soft drinks. Though Pepsi does have other products like Sobe Water, Green Teas, Starbucks Ready to drink coffees, etc that I will totally avoid as along as they continue association with Senomyx. Especially as other companies dropped their association when this was originally made news.
It certainly is happening where the culture of the death is pushed on us at every turn. I actively support the way suggested to us and proposed for us to be good stewards of the environment and caretakers of the created world. But with every one of these actions I truly wonder about the horror that only a percentage of the next generation of humans created in God’s image and likeness will be around to enjoy and appreciate the sacrifices we make to be caretakers of the earth…And this is all perfectly ok according to contemporary thinkers and our government??
My wife loves the taste of Pepsi so I’m not exited about telling her this news?
I’m almost sure that if she knows that the use of aborted babies are indirectly encouraged in any way, she’s not going to like “IT” at all so maybe Pepsi might drop this idea all, to get her business if you know what I mean?
Thanks for the information
Glad to know I generally come across as gentle-mannered. That one has been building up a while and trust me that you don’t want to know the circumstances.
Ouch, but Pepsi??? Anyone who knows me in person knows I am completely addicted to pop. Oh boy, caffeine withdrawal, here we come…?
First Samuel Adams ale and then now Pespi. I’m out. Trojanz makes Ex-lax.
Pepsi is also my choice of soft drink when I do drink however this is not only disgusting but it also creeps me out. No more Pepsi or Campbells products. And yes I’ve emailed both companies.
Especially as other companies dropped their association when this was originally made news.
Do tell. Got any details on who dropped?
I thought Pepsi was one of the ones who dropped their association with this company.
I was wrong; they’re not: http://www.christiannewswire.com/news/5541217048.html
If wiki is to be belived, Campbell’s dropped.
Ugh, I’m sick. Pepsi I could take or leave but Mountain Dew runs in my veins. I guess I shouldn’t eat so much processed food anyway, but I hardly know where to turn.
I was skeptical–it sounded like that “KFC doesn’t use actual chickens” rumor a few years ago, which was ridiculous because real chickens are cheaper to raise than hydroponic GM post-chickens would be to develop–but this just smacks of another attempt to justify treating humans as a consumable resource.
How long until Soylent Green? How long, O Lord?
In addition to Pepsi & Mountain Dew if you don’t want to consume food or beverages which have been taste tested for flavors using human aborted fetus tissue here are some other PepsiCo products that are now officially on the gross-out list:
Quaker Oats Company
Walkers snack foods
There are excellent low cost alternatives to every brand listed above. With the bonus that the flavors haven’t been tested with recourse to aborted fetus’ little valued and disposed of lives.
I’m enclosing a little note that I’ve received from Pepsi. Maybe you could do a little follow UP in the future and see if any of our concerns have really been met or are we just subjects of lip service.
In closing I’m sure that you’re aware that no matter what our faults are we are still all God’s Children! Right? 🙂

Thank you for contacting us to share your sincere concerns.
Please be assured that PepsiCo is committed to using only the highest ethical methods in all aspects of our research everywhere around the world. This is something we take very seriously, and we hold ourselves and all of our research partners to the same high standards as the world’s leading research centers. With respect to the flavor discovery research with Senomyx, we utilize techniques that have been the gold standard for several decades by top universities, hospitals, U.S. government agencies, food and beverage companies, and essentially every pharmaceutical and biotech company in the world. Yet, there is some misinformation being circulated meant to distort what we’re doing and question our motives and those of other companies. This is unfortunate, and it is certainly not reflective of the work we are doing.
We hope this information is helpful and reassuring.
Thank you again for reaching out to us and allowing us to clarify the situation.

I read about this on the Ranter’s blog and was kind of gobsmacked. So I now try to avoid all Pepsi products. I was really saddened the other day when a friend of mine started saying that the only reason these “stupid pro-lifers” are avoiding Pepsi is because they believe there is actual fetal tissue in every bottle. Well, no. And even if you’re not “religious,” how is it not terrifying to use human embryonic cells to make better-tasting food with no nutritive value?
