Patrick Deneen,Associate Professor of Government at Georgetown University, had some stinging criticism of the Jesuit university, saying that Georgetown “increasingly and inevitably remakes itself in the image of its secular peers, ones that have no internal standard of what a university is for other than the aspiration of prestige for the sake of prestige, its ranking rather than its commitment to Truth.”
He has been hired by Notre Dame to teach there. I guess he is working his way up to a fully Catholic university.
Deneen said he’s not going to Notre Dame with blinders on. ”I don’t doubt that there will be many battles at Our Lady’s University,” he wrote. ”But, there are at least some comrades-in-arms to share in the effort.”
Ah good to see he is going there with no false assumptions and the right attitude and he will certainly find comrades-in-arms there. Though it is too bad that there will be one less authentically Catholic voice at Georgetown.
Deneen said Notre Dame hired him because they regard him as “someone who can be a significant contributor to its mission and identity, particularly the Catholic identity of the institution.” He said such considerations are not typically a criterion for hiring at Georgetown.
Now that is an understatement.
This is the wish of the Obama Administration i.e. the elimination of a Catholic identity from all institutions of higher education and all health care facilities. The Marxist/ Alinsky methods are right on course in this White House. I would propose that professors like this stay put and work to re-Christianize these now-secular institutions. They can begin by calling sponsor groups like the Jesuits to return to the fullness of the faith. If all faithful Catholics leave Georgetown, what will be left but Obama-bots.
You found a way to get in a bunch of snide remarks about Notre Dame in a story where they went out of their way to hire a devoutly Catholic professor? What sort of experience do you have there beyond reading about the Obama commencement speech? Can you name a more conservative leading University?
the question is how did this band of rebel theologians and other professors kidnap these once great Catholic Universities. One supposes the model they used was of the 1917 Marxist variety. They sure received very little opposition to the kidnap–actually they appear to have pulled it off very easily. Poking their sticks in the eyes of catholicism with their vagina chronicles, proabortion professors peculiar theologians, gay marriage positions etc etc etc. Read these blogs and see what a joke it is to call ND, Georgetown, Seton Hall and some (mostly Jesuit) other colleges Catholic. By the way I am a 1956 graduate of a Jesuit college and had more hours of philosophy and religion than of my major Chemistry. How times have changed–for the better?
You ought to be ashamed of yourself for having retreated these many years into this comfortable, false, pederastic mystery. You were better and stronger when you you were younger. It is morally incumbent upon you to renounce your false christ, and your false god. The failures of twentieth century socialism are no sort of refutation of this. shame on you for your weakness. Do some situps.
No one deserves an eternity in hell, and don’t you dare spout your false mysterious theology to the contrary. Only ultimate bullies could ever vouch for that. You know, the evil kinds. Your god is a bad dom. There is no catharsis in his sadism, and no lesson in his dreadful punishments. Happily, he is less a real object, and more a manifestation of the human desire to be hateful toward other humans who do not conform.
I pity you.
