CNSNews.com)- The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the
nomination of U.S. District Court Judge Dennis Shedd to a seat on the 4th U.S.
Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Va. Shedd, a protege of the retiring Sen.
Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.), was promoted on a vote of 55-44. Some of the Democrats
opposed to Shedd’s promotion said they voted yes out of respect to Thurmond, who
– at age 99 – is the nation’s oldest and longest-serving senator. The Senate on
Tuesday also confirmed the confirmation of Michael McConnell s to the 10th U.S.
Circuit Court of Appeals. The two confirmations sent up howls of protest from
Planned Parenthood, which insists that Bush appointees are on a mission to
“dismantle 30 years of reproductive freedom.”
