PARIS – France’s plan to bar religious symbols from state schools took a further confusing turn by Wednesday after the education minister said a proposed ban on Muslim veils could also outlaw beards and bandannas if they were judged to be a sign of faith.
…Sikhs — of whom there are over 5,000 in the Paris area –also wear beards because they do not cut their hair. Ferry said they might still be able to wear discreet turbans to school but did not mention their facial hair.
What in the world does a discreet turban look like? Though I do find the word play of a turban ban funny. President Bush in the lead up to the Iraq war did not know how to effectively communicate with the French. He should have skipped the idea of possible WMDs and other minor matters and told them instead that there were people in Iraq wearing beards, turbans and heardscarfs there. The French would have been on our side then.

I didn’t think bearded children were a big problem in France. I don’t think I saw any…..
