A reader sent me a link to something rather odd.
Why in the world is the John Jay College of Criminal Justice doing a survey among VOTF member on the sexual abuse of children by Catholic priests? Sure VOTF goes on and on about this as a way to further their agenda, but what exactly is there competence?
Though maybe they want an opinion on what not to do.

The hook in in the ‘Statement of Purpose’ section:
With regard to the first of these objectives, we are interested in gaining an understanding of the structural and leadership factors within the Roman Catholic Church that framed the institutional response to the child sex abuse crisis. We will concentrate on identifying changes in organizational structure and leadership within the American Catholic institutions, the changing relationship of parishioners and lay leaders within established episcopal authority, the shifting normative culture within the Church regarding gender roles and sexuality, and the awareness and response to clergy sex abuse.“
Which means:
“We want you to outline your desired changes for the Catholic Church, and then we’ll recommend the Church submit to it.”
Watch this carefully.

Anyway, you know John Jay College did the analysis of diocesan surveys for the USCCB report on abuse cases. Maybe VOTF wants to use that fact to give some pretense of merit to this little propaganda project.
VOTF is fast becoming the “Catholics for a (so called) Free Choice”,i.e. a weapon for the new “know nothings”, to beat up on the Church over the abuse scandal.
