(CNSNews.com) – A pro-life group is offering what it calls a “swift and determined response” to news that the United Autoworkers Union is demanding coverage for elective abortions as part of autoworkers’ health care plans.
The demand came up during the UAW’s negotiations with General Motors, much to the dismay of Right to Life Michigan.
“This decision by the UAW to pursue abortion as a covered benefit is fraught with many perils for the well-being of union workers, the union itself, GM and for innocent unborn children,” Right to Life of Michigan President Barbara Listing said in a press release.
Both the UAW and GM should look carefully at the impact abortion has on women’s health, the pro-life group said. Far from promoting good health among union members and their families, making abortion readily available will expose women to serious long-term health consequences – something that could adversely impact health care costs, the group said.
