On the Laura Ingraham show today she had a segment with the wonderful Mark Steyn. At one point they were discussing Laura’s comment about the Sheryl Crow one piece of toilet paper for climate change where Laura had said "Liberals need to stay out of our bathrooms" and Mark Steyn said "All we are saying is give one piece a chance."

Now to be fair Sheryl Crow on her blog she now says "And by the way guys, the toilet paper thing…it was a JOKE!!" So I guess she is now opting for the failed joke category as John Kerry did. But at the same appearance she also talked about her dining sleeve.

I also like the idea of not using paper napkins, which happen to be made from virgin wood and represent the height of wastefulness. I have designed a clothing line that has what’s called a "dining sleeve." The sleeve is detachable and can be replaced with another "dining sleeve," after usage. The design will offer the "diner" the convenience of wiping his mouth on his sleeve rather than throwing out yet another barely used paper product. I think this idea could also translate quite well to those suffering with an annoying head cold.

Now what exactly is virgin wood? Would that be a "Cherry tree?" "When a bird or bee approaches some virgin wood with a bit of pollen does it say "Not tonight I have a headache." Do they fend off Beech bums? Or are they virgin trees because they are not very Poplar and need to Spruce up first. The next thing is I wonder if she has ever heard of the obscure invention called the handkerchief. If you are going to actually invent a clothing line with a Kramer like invention called the "dining sleeve" please don’t try to tell us the the TP thing was a joke.

Vatican, Apr. 25, 2007 (CWNews.com) – Pope Benedict XVI (bio – news) called attention to the UN-designated "Road Safety Week" during his regular weekly audience on April 25.

At the conclusion of his audience the Pope said that a "decent sense of responsibility for one’s neighbors" should encourage careful driving and respect for the rules of the road. He said that it is particularly important for young people to absorb this message.

This was obviously in response to this incident.

(2007-4-18) — Democrat presidential hopeful John Edwards today unveiled the centerpiece of his 2008 White House bid, a budget-neutral proposal to provide universal hair care to every American.

The former North Carolina senator and 2004 vice presidential candidate is the acknowledged “hair policy wonk” among Democrat candidates.

Speaking to a convention of stylists and cosmetologists yesterday, Mr. Edwards described the vast divide between the well-coiffed and the un-coiffed masses, “a divide as sharp as the part in my own tawny locks.”

“Haircuts averaging $250-$800, which I receive, are out of reach for people who live in the other America,” said Mr. Edwards. “As a result, we see far too many getting what I call back-alley haircuts for $15 to $25, or relying on home remedies for hair conditions which really need professional attention.”

The Edwards universal hair care proposal would not boost the federal deficit, or result in real tax increases, Mr. Edwards said, because the government would negotiate favorable pricing from hair care providers, and thanks to the savings wealthy Americans could subsidize the styling of the poor

Is there any connection this week between the Imus controversy and the death of Don Ho?

There has been a lot of commentary in the last couple of days due to the Imus flap and the coarsening of culture. But like many things that we notice today the roots go back much farther then just modern times.

For example the play turned book by Baroness Emmuska Orczy called the The Scarlet Pimpernel. Now I don’t recall if the Scarlet Pimpernel drove between England and France in pre-Chunnel times in a pink Cadillac accentuated with fur rescuing French Aristocrats, but introducing a hero who was a Pimpernel regardless of the color is hardly appropriat. I hear that a new movie remake will have the possible academy nominated song. "It’s hard out here for a Pimpernel."

Long before there was Rap music there was the Hoedown.

Being that today is Thursday I am currently listening to Nick Alexander’s Holy Thursday sung to "Monday, Monday" by The Mamas & Papas which is quite funny and the song fits perfectly. Though the master song parodist that Nick is I think he really missed out on the title for this song. He should have called it Maundy, Maundy. Though maybe the pun wouldn’t have translated well when sung.
