Dark Night

by Jeffrey Miller March 17, 2021May 26, 2021
written by Jeffrey Miller

I am going through a phase where I do not feel close to Jesus at all.

Yet I am super-interested in philosophy, theology, liturgy, etc.

I guess I am going through a Dork Night of the Soul.

My joke has a grain of truth as far as it goes. I have never had a pietistic emotional attachment to Jesus. More of an intellectual attachment to Christ. One that only grows in my certitude. I would like it if my emotions lined up with my intellect (such as it is), but still am filled with thankfulness and gratitude to where he has brought me so far. So being too abstract intellectually is a cross for me, especially as I read the various Carmelite saints.

Requiescat in Pace Jean Heimann

by Jeffrey Miller February 24, 2021April 9, 2021
written by Jeffrey Miller

Sad news indeed to hear of Jean Heimann’s passing.

Posted on her blog Catholic Fire today

Aug. 8, 1949-Feb. 21, 2021

The founder of this blog, Jean M. Heimann, has gone on to her eternal reward. After suffering rapidly declining health following the death of her beloved husband, Jean died on Sunday, February 21, 2021, at the age of seventy-one years. Of your charity, please pray for the repose of her soul.

Those who have appreciated the work Jean put into this blog for many years, those who have appreciated her books, as well as those who knew Jean are invited to leave a tribute on this memorial site. There you can also find details of her funeral, scheduled for Friday, 26 February 2021, in Wichita, Kansas.

This blog will remain online as a lasting memorial to Jean. Those who have enjoyed the inspiration and information provided here may also like to read Jean’s books (click title headings for link to Amazon):

She was one of the early Catholic bloggers, starting Catholic Fire in 2003. In those early days there was a lot of support and encouragement among Catholic bloggers and she encouraged me and many others.

She is also the author of serveral books including Learning to Love with the Saints: A Spiritual Memoir. She will be missed dearly.

Fish Sandwich Insurance

by Jeffrey Miller February 16, 2021May 26, 2021
written by Jeffrey Miller

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is offering “insurance” for its flounder sandwich. If the flounder doesn’t suit customers’ palates, then they can replace it with chicken. The Cajun-seasoned flounder filet, which will be a contestant on our upcoming fish sandwich review, is expected to be a staple of the Popeyes menu for the six weeks leading up to Easter.

The insurance option is only available on Thursday, February 18 (and only when purchased through the Popeyes app). The idea is that those who are going meatless on Friday can test out the flounder on Thursday. Since no one would want a fish sandwich replaced with chicken on an abstinence day, they are only offering the promotion for one day. The insurance costs 15 cents, which should still keep the sandwich under $5.

Canadian diocese offering ‘take home’ containers for Ash Wednesday

After seeing this story I am thinking of getting into the sacramental delivery business. A business where people could have sacramentals such as ashes delivered directly to their homes.

I will call it DoorAsh.
