Gerald as he photographs churches throughout Europe has shown some incongruous articles in otherwise quite beautiful churches. Today though a cross in a church in Vienna really takes the cake.
A Lego block cross complete with lego toy truck at the intersection is something else indeed. I think this is one instance when I am really glad they had a cross instead of a crucifix. Now I know Jesus is the Logos, but certainly not the Legos. Maybe they borrowed it from the Lego church.

Are you sure that isn’t a crucifix—maybe intended for the Church of the Small Plastic Truck?
After reading Diogenes’s combox, I wonder whether the most faithful response might not be to show this cross to a small boy—3-4 years old would be ideal—and carefully neglect to put any limits on his behavior. The cross would be, in short order, disassembled and made into something more edifying (probably involving violent death, but that’s still closer to Our Lord’s Passion than the truck). When outrage is expressed by those who are invested in using the cross to outrage the faithful, you can choose your response from the following list:
a. “Didn’t Jesus say, ‘Let the little children come unto me?'”
b. “Isn’t it hierarchical to privilege the expressions of an artistic elite over the unfettered visions of childhood?”
c. “How thoughtful of your congregation to provide something for the kids to do!”
d. Add your own!
I can dream, can’t I? 🙂
