Coughlin explain the prominence of fellow faculty member Richard McBrien? Reply Christopher Malloy June 13, 2006 - 2:56 pm This is a decent article. I might add, though, that a true and vibrant Catholic university offers something intangible, over and beyond the requirements of Ex Corde. Certainly, a Catholic university must meet the requirements of Ex Corde. But this must all be done with vigor, and not reluctantly. I believe that such vigor requires both deep love of the truth, through a contemplative outlook, and also analytical rigor, all guided by earnest fidelity to the Deposit of Faith as it is preserved and expounded by the Magisterium. Finally, the highpoint of collegiate life ought to be liturgical (for the Mass is the Sum and Summit of Christian life). There are good signs in a number of places that Ex Corde is being heeded. What is crucial beyond this is to nourish a great joy in what is authentically Catholic. Such an attitude is intrinsically attractive, open to dialogue, and completely faithful. It’s owned by a large healthcare company. Its administrator and several of the bosses are NOT Catholic. As Chaplain, I was HIRED to bring the “CATHOLIC IDENTITY” but my suggestions are often met with resistance like “(blessing of pets) is not biblical.” O YEA? Read where Gosd created animals and said, It is GOOD!. That response was not enough Reply Leave a Comment Cancel Reply Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment.
