ABOARD USS HARRY S. TRUMAN, EAST MEDITERANNEAN (BP)–Because of the awesome firepower it carries, an aircraft carrier is one of the safest places in the world to be. But there’s another weapon that’s being wielded by Christians on board the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) — the power of prayer.
Intercessory prayer for shipmates, families back home, and the countries at conflict occurs regularly on this ship.
One group meets, most noontimes, in the chapel. Though small in numbers, their prayers are passionate. With the sounds of planes launching overhead, these four crewmembers of varying rank and position pray for the soldiers and Marines on the ground, the POWs, and the families of those killed in action. They pray for the “young children who are so confused and don’t understand the meaning of war.” They pray for the aviators and the success of their missions.
