Once again, a pro-abortionist has been invited to speak at a supposedly Catholic institution. On October 5, 2004, Illinois Democratic senatorial candidate Barack Obama will speak to the students and guests of Benedictine University, located in Lisle, Ill.

Just how pro-abortion is Obama? Consider the following excerpt from a Sept. 1, 2004 column on IllinoisLeader.com by former nurse and noted pro-life activist Jill Stanek:

“For three years in a row I submitted the same testimony to Illinois Senate committees that were deciding whether to let the full Senate vote on the Born Alive Infants Protection Act.

“It was during those committee hearings that I first came face-to-face with state Senator Barack Obama, who functioned as either a member or the chairman, depending on the year and the committee.

“Each time I testified, I described to Obama and other members the death of a particular little girl who was aborted alive at Christ Hospital.

“The baby’s death haunts me, because she might have lived with help. Her abandonment by medical professionals clearly demonstrated that wanted and unwanted babies are treated differently at delivery….

“When Obama and his fellow Democrats voted against [the Born Alive Infants Protection Act] in committee that first year, I didn’t think they understood the magnitude of the 23-weeker’s death.

“So the next year along with my testimony I submitted a page from the neonatal textbook demonstrating the resuscitation of a baby about the same age as I described. I watched Obama look at those photos… before he voted no again….”

Besides his 100 percent pro-abortion voting record, Obama also opposes a Constitutional Amendment banning homosexual “marriage.” (He has, however, claimed that he is not in favor of homosexual “marriage.” Only “civil unions,” you see.) (Source)

Seminarian Dennis has one of the better personally opposed parallels that I have seen. It doesn’t take much to show the intellectual vapidness of this argument, but this one makes the point very clear.

Assisted suicide and euthanasia have been legal in the Netherlands for quite some time. Now they are apparently practicing nonconsensual euthanasia on children. A link to the text of the law can be found here, as well as some commentary on the law.

Dawn Eden continues her in-depth coverage of Planned Parenthood’s Teenwire. I applaud her for her efforts in exposing them for what they really are and is doing the moral equivalent of dumpster diving. The longer you are in the dumpster the more putrid filth you can dig up. Her latest installment covers them advocating preserving virginity through what Frank Zappa euphemistically referred to as the poop shoot. I doubt even the infamous Madonna when she sang "Like a Virgin" had this in mind.

Now it is no surprise that PP has a very deviant understanding of virginity. This type of moral equivocation is exactly what Jesus talked about when he said "But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart." The truth of human sexuality is not just the physical act itself however it might occur, but also the act of the spiritual self. We are suppose to look at the history of the world and then come up with the judgment that sex outside of marriage never causes any problems. Our whole society is involved in a massive Emperor’s new clothes delusion, but even worse not only do they pretend that the emperor has clothes but they actually have come to see them on him.

A CATHOLIC priest has condemned plans by a leading sexual health organisation to open an abortion clinic in Fallowfield – saying it will be ‘a house of death and carnage’.

And Pro-life campaigners have also called the decision to place the clinic in the heart of Manchester’s student land, ‘cynical’.

The Marie Stopes International clinic, believed to be opening in October, is in Wynnstay Grove, at the site of a former NSPCC day clinic, next to a hostel for homeless families.

Father Tom Connolly, parish priest of St Kentigern’s Church, said: "Work is going on to adapt the building to do away with the unborn. This is a house of death and carnage. The lively children of the homeless hostel will be playing next door to an abortion clinic." [Story]

Microsoft Corp. chairman Bill Gates contributed $400,000 to the campaign backing a California ballot measure that would make billions of dollars available for human embryonic stem cell research and cloning projects in the state, according to campaign records.

Gates is the latest billionaire to contribute to a campaign that has amassed more than $12 million in support of Proposition 71, which would have the state borrow $3 billion to fund the controversial research over 10 years.

Cloning projects solely for research would be funded, but cloning programs to create babies would be barred.

I really wish that instead of money that Bill Gates would have donated software instead to embryonic stem-cell researches. With all the crashes, "blue screens of death", and installing yet another security patch they could never get around to actually killing embryos for research.

…Stem cells are harvested from days-old embryos, which are destroyed in the process. That’s why many conservative groups, including the Roman Catholic Church, oppose the research.

Stem cells were first discovered in 1997 and even the research’s most enthusiastic supporters concede that medicines created with stem cells are still many years away. (source)

Well that last statement isn’t quite true. What they meant to say was that medicines from embryonic stem-cell research are many years.

Dawn Eden does a masterful take down of a NYT piece on emergency contraception. This piece was in the health section instead of where it should have been in the editorial section. I find it ironic in that religious people are always being called anti-science and ignorant and then these same people have no problem misrepresenting a scientific information if it contradicts or slows down their agenda. The fact that emergency contraception can cause an abortion – inconvenient fact that must be denied. Funny since these same people normally have no problem with abortion. Then why do they deny this so forcefully? Maybe because they are losing the abortion debate so in cases of chemical abortafacients like the morning-after pill and embryonic stem-cell research the language used becomes very deceitful. If their arguments are so strong then why all the lies?

Here in Florida there are multiple people running to take Bob Graham’s place in the Senate. On the GOP side we have Mel Martinez, Johnie Byrd, Doug Gallagher, Larry Klaman. For the Democrats we have Betty Castor, Peter Deutsch, and Alex Penelas. Now normally this would take a lot of work to sort through all of these candidates to choose one. Unfortunately it is actually very easy to narrow it down. Just apply the old pro-life algorithm and in no time the choices are slimmed down considerably. The National Right to Life Committee actually endorsed two candidates, which is a rarity for them. Former U.S. Housing Secretary Mel Martinez and Florida House Speaker Johnnie Byrd were both endorsed since they have consistent pro-life positions. The Democratic candidates were all strongly pro-abortion and of the rest of the Republican candidates

I had recently heard on a local talk show an interview with Doug Gallagher who answered questions fairly well and I like most of his answers. That was until a caller asked about using embryonic stem-cells. He seemed to be pro-life on this but I was highly suspicious when he termed part of the ESTR as ideological and he repeatedly used this term. So I was not surprised when I read this in an article today.

President Bush, Martinez and Senate candidate Johnnie Byrd largely oppose the research because they say it involves the destruction of embryos. Gallagher, a Catholic who almost became a priest, says he’s comfortable with his position, which the church opposes, because the embryos used are routinely discarded at fertility clinics when no longer needed.

”It doesn’t make sense to throw something away that holds such promise,” Gallagher said. “It’s pro-life to save life.”

Now we all know what happens after the phrase "I was raised Catholic" is used, but the phrase "I almost became a priest" seems to be the same. Other famous people that used this phrase are Tom Cruise, Michael Moore, and John Kerry. So when I see this phrase I normally expect to see a position contrary to Church teaching advocated within the next paragraph. The "It’s pro-life to save life" is also another phrase that seems to be used more and more and it is just a variant of "personally opposed, but". The fact that embryos are routinely discarded should make someone want to do everything then can to keep this from happening, not looking for ways to make use of this horrid situation. Prisoners are going to die anyway so let’s harvest them for organs while they are still fresh. Hey we are all going to die anyway so let us make use of some for the greater benefit to others. It is pro-life to save life only when using ethical means.
