I think something got translated incorrectly by this one reporter on a Church sponsored clinic in Botswana that will not give out condoms.

Father John Corrigan of the Roman Catholic Church in Gaborone reveals that St. Joseph’s clinic is both a mission clinic and a government- aided clinic. He then states that it functions according to the Roman Catholic Holy Act, which does not treat sex lightly.

The Roman Catholic Holy Act? I thought for a minute that this must be some new and unheard of Vatican legislation. As far as I know the only Roman Catholic Holy Act is the one that states "Be holy as your Heavenly Father is holy." It is not often that a Google search turns up only one hit on a search term and in in this case it was this very article.

The next quote from the priest is very strange and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was not what he actually said.

"Sex is a secret and holy act that is meant to be a gift from God to husband and wife. However, with young people engaging in pre-marital sex, we encourage safe sex under two conditions. Don’t get AIDS. Don’t get pregnant," he says.

In another article about the drive to violate the consciences of pharmacists in the state of Washington.

And Marc Brenman, executive director of the state Human Rights Commission, warned in a letter to the board that refusals could be considered gender-based discrimination, which puts pharmacies at risk of civil damages.

So I guess following your correctly formed conscience is not one of the human rights in the state of Washington. Amazing how liberals were such stalwart supporters of following conscience such as supporting conscientious objectors. Following your conscience is fine just as long as it matches my own.

Exactly. Just too bad Catholic pharmacist as a whole did not fight against prescribing contraceptives until the debacle of the so-called morning after pill. This would have been a much easier battle to fight previously. The pill has always had a possibility to act as an abortafacient and plan B is just a stronger version.

North Providence, RI (LifeNews.com) — A local Knights of Columbus that had arranged to let a pro-abortion candidate use its hall for a campaign event has gone back on the arrangement. The group, which takes a strong pro-life view, says it made a mistake in booking the event because it should never have allowed a candidate who favors abortion to have access.

The Knights said it went back on the arrangement it made with Rhode Island Democratic Senate candidate Sheldon Whitehouse because he favors abortion.

The Catholic group had agreed to rent its facility to Whitehouse’s campaign but discovered the problem several weeks after it signed the lease.

According to the Providence Journal newspaper, a Knights spokesman talked to Whitehouse’s campaign and said it couldn’t use the facility because the Catholic Church has asked its churches and affiliated groups to not give a platform to pro-abortion candidates and politicians.

Rene Trudel, the Knights of Columbus’ Rhode Island state deputy, told the Journal that the organization agreed to pay $2,000 for the campaign to rent another venue for the event because of breaking the lease.

Trudel told the Providence paper that the Knights had accidentally used an older version of a lease agreement instead of a new one that says anyone leasing the facility must not publicly oppose the teachings of the Catholic Church.

POTSDAM, N.Y. (AP) — A North Country hospital has dropped its pursuit of land owned by a Catholic church after the church included a ban on abortions in the deed.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church placed restrictions on "sordid and profane" purposes, which include abortions.

Canton-Potsdam Hospital learned of the restriction Sunday and dropped the deal.

Hospital spokeswoman Rebecca Sutcliffe said there were no hard feelings. "The church needs to be true to its mission, just as we need to be true to our mission," she said.

Of course a hospital that sees part of its mission as providing murder-for-hire services isn’t being exactly true it its mission. Of course that is why they keep revising the Hippocratic Oath instead of seeking to fulfill their mission they change the mission instead.

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP)_ Legislation to require all hospitals, including Catholic facilities, to prescribe rape victims the so-called morning after pill, is back before lawmakers.

Last week, a bill requiring all hospitals to provide Plan B emergency contraception died in committee. Now, a similar proposal is included as a few words in the massive spending package approved Thursday by the Appropriations Committee.

The one-sentence section allocates $5 million to help hospitals pay for increased energy costs, but the additional aid would only be given to hospitals that provide emergency contraception to rape victims.

Senate Minority Leader Louis C. DeLuca, R-Woodbury, criticized the provision.

"That is an underhanded, midnight assault on the Catholic religion and it is insulting that they would even do this," DeLuca said. "This bill had a full hearing and it was not voted on by the committee of cognizance … and now these people sneak into a budget bill where it has no place being."

Catholics believe life begins at conception, and the Catholic Church in Connecticut is opposed to any law that requires hospitals provide emergency contraception in cases where an egg has been fertilized or a woman is ovulating.

"This is not aimed at Catholic hospitals," said Rep. Denise W. Merrill, D-Mansfield, the House chairwoman of the Appropriations Committee.

Not aimed at Catholic hospitals? I guess you are allowed to be a Catholic hospital just as long as you don’t follow the faith.

The head teacher of a Roman Catholic school has told how she was forced to contact police over her decision to teach some pupils about contraception.

Diana Vernon, of Woldingham School, in Surrey, was sent hostile letters and e-mails by anti-abortionists attacking the move to teach girls aged 14 and 15.

Anti-abortion group UK LifeLeague said the school did not have to teach it.

But Miss Vernon said pupils were given a "clear sense" of Catholic Church requirements, as well as other options.

She said the independent girls school also followed Department for Education and Skills requirements.

"We make sure that the girls are aware of the options and then can leave here and make an informed moral choice for themselves," she said.

Miss Vernon added that she had advised police that the school had been targeted by anti-abortionists as a precaution, but there was nothing to suggest it was "under threat".

Not surprising that yet another Catholic school teacher view contraception as a requirement instead of a gravely sinful act. They must think they stay up nights late at the Vatican coming up with annoying requirements. "Hey here is one that will really stick in peoples’ craw." This I guess is the America Magazine approach to teaching. Here is what the Church teaches and here are some other options. Contraception is gravely disordered and here are some ways to go about it. Typical moral malpractice where someone’s eternal soul is jeopardized by someone who more than likely doesn’t agree with Church teaching.

And then there is the over reaction by calling the police because people who are actually pro-life wrote some letters in disagreement. Now probably some of those letters were not written very charitably, but I don’t think there are gangs of pro-life thugs waiting outside the school waiting to beat up teachers who are teaching grave error.

In another school though they do the right thing.

Senior Laura Murphy says she’s been told to bring someone else or come alone.

And as you would expect though a good chunk of the school body in this Catholic school thinks this is wrongful discrimination.

She says she is being discriminated against, and she’s collected petition signatures from about a third of the school’s 130 students in support.

This audio interview with Laura Murphy is the typical I didn’t want to cause a commotion but I had to be true to myself. She even complained that if they had just said yes from the beginning that this wouldn’t have escalated.

Another tip from Dawn Eden this time on how Planned Parenthood is to become "fat friendly."

Efforts are now underway to alleviate larger women’s discomfort at the gynecologist’s office. Pat Lyons, a registered nurse, public health educator, and co-author of the Berkeley study, is working with Planned Parenthood of the Southern Finger Lakes (PPSFL), in New York, to develop a program for sensitive treatment of overweight patients.

These and other health care providers are working from a foundation built by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) National Task Force on the Prevention and Treatment of Obesity. In 2002, the AAFP task force released guidelines for caring for overweight and obese patients. The guidelines included encouraging the purchase of office supplies that fit larger patients and talking to overweight women about how they want to be weighed, among other things.

Maureen Kelly, director of training and education for PPSFL, plans to launch a pilot program in 2006 that makes some Planned Parenthood health centers around the United States "fat friendly." The program includes training staff; offering pamphlets on the healthcare rights of overweight women to clients; and stocking appropriate exam tables, robes, and equipment. Kelly strives to build health centers where, she says, "we honor the fact that women come in all different shapes and sizes."

Of course we can easily imagine the Planned Parenthood diet. Drop pounds of tissue mass in one easy visit. Of course no mention of oral contraceptives causing weight gain in some women especially DepoProvera. Though all of their programs reaching out to women only reminds is that they are wise as serpents.

HARTFORD, Conn. — Legislation that would have required all hospitals, including Catholic facilities, to prescribe rape victims the so-called morning after pill, was allowed to die Monday.

The Public Health Committee, which took up the bill 15 minutes before its deadline, ran out of time to act on a possible compromise that would have allowed Catholic hospitals to use private nurses to administer the pill. The medication helps prevent pregnancy if taken within 72 hours of intercourse.

Well that is good news for now, but the legislatures idea of a compromise is pretty laughable. We know you are morally against killing an innocent child so we are sure you will have no problem if a "private nurse" does it instead.

WASHINGTON — Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, said Friday it was changing its prescribing practices for a drug used to terminate early pregnancies after reports of two new deaths possibly linked to the drug.

Earlier in the day, the Food and Drug Administration said it was investigating the two deaths that occurred after medical abortion with mifepristone, sold under the brand name Mifeprex. (Read more from the FDA on Mifeprex.) The medication is made by Danco Laboratories, a closely held New York company, and contains two separate drugs that need to be given in order to terminate a pregnancy.

The two deaths, as well as four others that occurred in California from September 2003 through June 2005, occurred in women who had been given one of the drugs vaginally rather than orally as directed. Last year federal health officials tied the four California deaths to sepsis, a serious blood infection caused by a bacteria known as Clostridium sordellii.

Mifeprex’s label states that both drugs should be given orally, and the FDA has repeatedly warned health-care professionals about the proper way to administer the drug. Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers, however, have been giving the second drug in the regimen vaginally rather than orally.

Remind me never to have my temperature checked at one of their clinics. The actual proper way to administer this drug is into the trash can.

The normally praiseworthy Democrats for Life issued a statement in support of the statement of (anything but) principles signed by the 55 Catholic Democrats. Rosa DeLauro who headed up the original statement once
served as Executive Director of EMILY’s List and is still supported by EMILY’s list.

There is a certain irony in Catholic supporting EMILY’s list. Jesus in describing the Kingdom of God said "It is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened." The acronym of EMILY means “Early Money Is Like Yeast” This is the same leaven Jesus also referred to"Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod."

Dear Ms. Day:

As a pro-life Democrat and elected official in one of the most liberal cities in the United States, I was shocked and dismayed to read your recent press release supporting a letter written by Rep. Rosa DeLauro and cosigned by mostly pro-abortion Democrats members of Congress. I found it to be deceptive and something I could never embrace.

Most of the letter’s signers support unrestricted abortion and have a total disregard for the grave moral disorder in our society. And to me it is obvious that no child could enjoy the programs and policies mentioned in this letter if he or she fell victim to abortion.

As a Board Member for Democrats for Life of New York, I cannot comprehend how you can officially share the goals of Representative DeLauro’s letter. Our goal, as pro-lifers, is to promote a culture of life. Their letter has been written to attack the President and promote a pro-abortion, liberal agenda, and its candidates, which includes the most of the signees. It has not been written to promote respect for the dignity of each human person at all stages of development. It has been signed by too many elected officials who choose to disregard some human life.

As a pro-life Democrat, I endure great pain, tribulation and agony by pro-abortion officials and political activists who refuse to promote the sacredness of all human life. Because of my Christian faith and its core beliefs – which include the need to respect all human life – I am the recipient of sharp and constant criticism. However, I am proud of my efforts and ask God to continue to give me the fortitude to continue.

I respectfully ask that you reconsider your support for this Congressional letter and its hidden agenda.

Fighting for a good educational system, good health services, job creation, affordable housing, and other important social services equally available to all human beings, are some of the reasons that I am a public servant, however, as I said before, an aborted baby will never be able to enjoy these services. Therefore, it is the duty and responsibility of every good Christian, good Catholic and any pro-lifer to defend the sanctity of life and not allow the sagacity of these signees to distance us from our goals.

Three cheers for Mr. Diaz who hasn’t fallen to the relativism so often exposed. If only some Republicans were half as pro-life as Mr. Diaz surely is.
