This Christmas, one of the main attractions is "The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe". The Disney film company is counting on Christian audiences to boost this film.
Disney hired the same group that marketed "The Passion of the Christ" to churches. Plans are well in hand so that churches nationwide will host sneak previews of parts of the film before its December opening in cinemas. Some Christians consider the C.S. Lewis classic story as an allegory in which the hero, the lion Aslan, represents Jesus Christ. [Source]
Some Christians consider the C.S. Lewis classic story as an allegory? C.S. Lewis was not exactly subtle when it came to allegory.
Unfortunately, I’ve heard some bad things about this movie. For instance, I heard that the filmmakers have removed any reference to the “Emperor Beyond the Sea” (an allegory for God the Father). The children will be crowned kings and queens of Narnia in the name of the “four winds” instead.
Some books just should not be made into movies. The Lord of the Rings was one; this is another one.
I actually know that the materials they send you aren’t really even “Christian” materials. Just a materials that promote the movie, really, without all the pesky details of Christianity that comes with it.
Disney making a Christian movie??? Yeah, right!
Actually, Lewis insisted that the Narnia books were not allegory:
It’s a subtle but important difference.
Disney is just a money making, money sucking, Catholic hating, stab you in the back kind of corporation. It wouldn’t surprise me to see them remove any and all references towards God in a movie and then sell it as a Christian movie. I’m sure old Walt is rolling over in his grave and has been for years. It’s sad to think the standards he held so dear are now a joke to Michael Eisner.(satan). Now you want me to tell you how I really feel……
Don’t buy into the rumors yet. Remember, at this stage of the LOTR movie release, we were led to believe that Arwen was joining the Fellowship…look how false that turned out to be.
I’m going to wait and see. I suspect Disney will remove any Christian meaning to it at all.
Is anybody else still boycotting Disney, or is my family the last holdout?
The director is a big fan of the books, and in fact didn’t even want to do it at first because he didn’t think anyone could do justice to them. He wants it to be a faithful adaptation.
Some of the things you may have heard might be referring to an earlier proposal that would have “updated” Narnia, changing from WWII England to modern day Los Angeles, and having hamburgers instead of turkish delight. Thank God *that* version is not being made!
Has anyone else seen the BBC Television version of The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe? Lucy is portrayed as a fat girl with buck teeth that splay out like a lawn rake…I suppose because Susan is supposed to be the “pretty one”. Edmund is far nastier than he ought to be. The White Witch was…well, about then I stopped watching. No subtlety. No subtlety at all.
Hey, FAT GIRL, Buck teeth what the heck?
Barbara Nicolosi has a great review: NARNIA:DEEP MAGIC at:
“Disney making a Christian movie??? Yeah, right!”
Walden Media made the Chronicles of Narnia movie. Disney is handling marketing and distribution.
Had to comment on the Fat girl with buck teeth reference. If you saw the BBC version with the Lucy discussed, you would say the same. Not the fat part but these teeth were not to be believed. I could hardly pay attention to the movie because her teeth were so freakish.
