{"id":4913,"date":"2006-06-28T13:05:39","date_gmt":"2006-06-28T18:05:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/2006\/06\/28\/excommunicated-scientists\/"},"modified":"2006-06-28T13:05:39","modified_gmt":"2006-06-28T18:05:39","slug":"excommunicated-scientists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/2006\/06\/excommunicated-scientists\/","title":{"rendered":"Excommunicated scientists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"bi\">(ANSA) &#8211; Vatican City, June 28 &#8211; The Vatican stepped up its fight against embryonic stem cell research on Wednesday, saying that scientists involved in such work would be excommunicated .<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"bi\">Cardinal Alfonso Lopez Trujillo, head of the Vatican department dealing with family affairs, said in a magazine interview that &quot;destroying human embryos is equivalent to an abortion&#8230; it&#8217;s the same thing&quot; .<\/p>\n<p class=\"bi\">&quot;Excommunication applies to all women, doctors and researchers who eliminate embryos,&quot; the cardinal told Catholic publication Famiglia Cristiana .<\/p>\n<p class=\"bi\">Trujillo said that &quot;certain crimes&quot; were being treated as if they had &quot;become rights&quot; .<\/p>\n<p class=\"bi\">He added that the Catholic Church was worried because &quot;even talking about the defence of life and family rights is being treated as a sort of crime against the state in some countries &#8211; a form of social disobedience or discrimination against women&quot; .<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/ansa.it\/main\/notizie\/awnplus\/english\/news\/2006-06-28_1284732.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/article.png\" width=\"76\" height=\"26\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"blog\">This would be a latae sententiae excommunication which is automatic, though would depend on requirements set forth in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vatican.va\/archive\/ENG1104\/__P4W.HTM\">Canon 1321<\/a>. I believe the Canons have been interpreted to not apply to lawmakers who help to pass laws that make these immoral actions possible in the first place. There is a big loophole that shows why Catholic lawmakers are not subjected to this Canon.
