A vacation in Italy turned tragic for a local archbishop and two fellow priests over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Baltimore’s Cardinal William Keeler is recovering in the hospital after getting in a car accident while vacationing outside of Rome.<\/p>\n

The 75-year-old suffered a broken ankle when a car struck the passenger side of the car he was riding in with two other priests in the town of Terni.<\/p>\n

Father Bernard Quinn, a retired priest from Pennsylvania, was killed in the crash. He was sitting in the backseat.<\/p>\n

Monsignor Thomas Smith, pastor of a church in Pennsylvania, was driving the car. He broke several ribs.<\/p>\n

The Catholic Church says both Keeler and Smith are making plans to return to Baltimore and Pennsylvania later this week. All three men were friends and often vacationed together.
