{"id":4168,"date":"2007-01-28T19:05:03","date_gmt":"2007-01-29T00:05:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/2007\/01\/28\/1000-pounds-of-catholic-books-and-devotional-objects\/"},"modified":"2007-01-28T19:05:03","modified_gmt":"2007-01-29T00:05:03","slug":"1000-pounds-of-catholic-books-and-devotional-objects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/2007\/01\/1000-pounds-of-catholic-books-and-devotional-objects\/","title":{"rendered":"1,000 pounds, of Catholic books and devotional objects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"bi\">It was a most unexpected blessing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bi\">St. Peter&#8217;s Church took in two free truckloads, about 1,000 pounds, of Catholic books and devotional objects thanks to the efforts of a former altar boy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bi\">David Soto, 32, an employee of a junk-collection company, contacted the Roman Catholic church after the company was hired to clear out the apartment of an elderly man who was moving into a nursing home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bi\">The man, whom the company and church officials declined to identify, had amassed enough items to pack his apartment, floor to ceiling, with boxes and bags.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bi\">Items included crucifixes, crosses, rosaries, devotional cards, medals and icons. The collection also included an encyclopedia of saints and books on Augustinian and Carmelite spirituality.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bi\">The company delivered the items earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bi\">Rev. Arthur Rojas said the books were high quality and speculated that the former owner _ coincidentally a former St. Peter&#8217;s parishioner _ might have once aspired to a life in the church.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bi\">&#8216;For all we know there was a calling to the priesthood or monastic life that was never fully actualized,&#8217; Rojas said.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.topix.net\/content\/ap\/0486555154051582801641511292921599277689\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/article.png\" width=\"76\" height=\"26\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"blog\">Well if tonnage of books and devotional items was an actual sign of calling then there must be a lot of missed vocations in St. Blogs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was a most unexpected blessing.
