A Roman Catholic bishop is backing a
\ncampaign to legalise brothels after the Women’s Institute announced
\nthat it supports the licensing of them.<\/p>\n
The Right Reverend Crispian Hollis, from Portsmouth, Hampshire, has
\nvoiced his support for the local branch of the Women’s Institute which
\nwants to legalise brothels.<\/p>\n
He said: “If you are going to take a pragmatic view and say
\nprostitution happens, I think there is a need to make sure it’s as well
\nregulated as possible for the health of people involved and for the
\nsafety of the ladies themselves.”<\/p>\n
“That’s not to say I approve of prostitution in any way. I would be
\nvery much happier if there was no prostitution in Portsmouth.<\/p>\n
“But it’s going to be there whatever we do and it has been from time
\nimmemorial. So I think that is something we have to be realistic about.”<\/p>\n
His comments won praise from Rachel Frost, from the International Union
\nfor Sex Workers.<\/p>\n
“The bishop should be commended for having the guts to come out and say
\nthat,” she said. <\/p>\n
