{"id":3077,"date":"2008-01-25T12:47:28","date_gmt":"2008-01-25T17:47:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/2008\/01\/25\/conflict-of-interest\/"},"modified":"2008-01-25T12:47:28","modified_gmt":"2008-01-25T17:47:28","slug":"conflict-of-interest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/2008\/01\/conflict-of-interest\/","title":{"rendered":"Conflict of interest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"blog\"><a\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.jillstanek.com\/archives\/2008\/01\/guttmacher_repo.html\"\ntarget=\"_blank\">Jill Stanek reports on<\/a> the<br \/>\nGuttmacher Institute&#8217;s most recent report indicating that by 2005<br \/>\nabortion had dropped 25% from its all time high of 1.6 million in 1990<br \/>\nto 1.2 million in 2005. &nbsp;Guttmacher is Planned Parenthoods<br \/>\nresearch arm and I am highly skeptical of anything that comes out of<br \/>\nthem. &nbsp;I was a little surprised to see so many Catholic<br \/>\nbloggers use the reported decline without the hefty barrels of salt<br \/>\nthat should be seen when coming out of them. &nbsp;It is in Planned<br \/>\nParenthood&#8217;s best interest for there to be a reported decline in<br \/>\nabortion. &nbsp;For one it helps to try to reduce it as a hot topic<br \/>\nand to make it a seem that the number of abortions will decline by<br \/>\nitself. &nbsp;Another point is that they can claim that there<br \/>\nblanketing of contraception is working. &nbsp;In an election year<br \/>\nthey certainly want to make abortion less contentious among voters so<br \/>\nthat pro-abortion politicians can get elected and to secure Planned<br \/>\nParenthoods source of income as the largest abortion provider.<\/p>\n<p class=\"blog\">I surely want a decline in the number of<br \/>\nabortions at a substantial rate to be true but it looks like in the<br \/>\ncase that Jill Stanek reports on that the statistics are quite<br \/>\nquestionable and while there has been some decrease it is not as much<br \/>\nas they reported. &nbsp;Jill had also made an astute observation<br \/>\nabout the previously reported baby bump and the decline of some levels<br \/>\nof abortion. &nbsp;Guttmacher&nbsp;claims that it is<br \/>\ncontraceptives and the lack of access to abortion clinics that is the<br \/>\ncause of this reduction. &nbsp;No surprise that they don&#8217;t see<br \/>\nthere is more of a move to embrace life than to kill it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"blog\">What really drives me crazy about<br \/>\nmainstream reporting on the Guttmacher Institute is that they almost<br \/>\nnever mention there connection to Planned Parenthood. &nbsp;If an<br \/>\ninstitute funded by a tobacco company released research that cigarettes<br \/>\nwere killing less people the media would laugh at such stories because<br \/>\nof the massive conflict of interest. &nbsp;But they don&#8217;t see this<br \/>\nconflict of interest because of their own conflict of interest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jill Stanek reports on the Guttmacher Institute&#8217;s most recent report indicating that by 2005 abortion had dropped 25% from its all time high of 1.6 million in 1990 to 1.2&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[23],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3077","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-pro-life"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3077","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=3077"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3077\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=3077"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=3077"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=3077"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
