{"id":10137,"date":"2010-02-21T17:15:21","date_gmt":"2010-02-21T22:15:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/?p=10137"},"modified":"2010-02-21T17:15:21","modified_gmt":"2010-02-21T22:15:21","slug":"the-new-l%e2%80%99-osservatore-romano","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/2010\/02\/the-new-l%e2%80%99-osservatore-romano\/","title":{"rendered":"The new L\u2019 Osservatore Romano"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There has been a lot of chatter in the last year about the direction the L\u2019 Osservatore Romano has taken. \u00a0 First there was the story on President Obama saying there were no radical changes in his first 100 days and no mention of his rescinding the Mexico City Policy in his first week. \u00a0Subsequently there have been other articles that have drawn criticism. \u00a0A film review of Avatar brought lots of attention along with a congratulations to The Simpson&#8217;s on their 20th anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>People are wondering what is the point of all of this in the Vatican&#8217;s semi-official newspaper? \u00a0Most of this is due to the confusion of the newspaper as being an official voice for the Vatican. The film reviews and The Simpson&#8217;s congrats don&#8217;t really bother me &#8211; but now they have gone too far by releasing a list of the top ten rock and pop albums of all time:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Beatles\u2019 \u201cRevolver\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Pink Floyd\u2019s \u201cThe Dark Side of The Moon\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Oasis\u2019\u00a0\u201c(What\u2019s the Story) Morning Glory?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Michael Jackson\u2019s \u201cThriller\u201d<\/li>\n<li>U2\u2019s \u201cAchtung Baby\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Fleetwood Mac\u2019s \u201cRumours\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Donald Fagen\u2019s \u201cThe Nightfly\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Carlos Santana\u2019s \u201cSupernatural\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Paul Simon\u2019s \u201cGraceland\u201d<\/li>\n<li>David Crosby\u2019s \u201cIf I Could Only Remember My Name.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now obviously this is a highly subjective list. \u00a0Though certainly the\u00a0L\u2019 Osservatore Romano does not have the charism of infallible pop picks. \u00a0I mean come on, U2&#8217;s Achtung Baby over Joshua Tree or The Beatles&#8217; Revolver over Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band? Except for Pink Floyd&#8217;s album the other picks are questionable for my Desert Island album list. \u00a0But then again I am just a middle age head banger warped by the sixties on.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019 Osservatore Romano really needs to write on the important things; like which is better Marvel or D.C. Comics?
