On yesterday\ufffds CNN show, \ufffdInside Politics,\ufffd Nancy Pelosi
\nsaid, \ufffdYes, I\ufffdm a liberal Democrat, but I\ufffdm a conservative Catholic.\ufffd  Her
\ncomment was also cited in today\ufffds edition of USA Today.  <\/font><\/p>\n

Catholic League president William Donohue found this
\namusing:<\/font><\/p>\n

\ufffdNancy Pelosi, the new Minority Leader in the House of
\nRepresentatives, has voted against school vouchers and the Faith-Based
\nInitiative.  When it comes to abortion, no one in the U.S. Congress has a
\nmore extreme record than she does.  Whether the issue is parental consent
\nor partial-birth abortion, she can always be counted on to deliver a proabortion
\nvote.  Yet she calls herself a \ufffdconservative Catholic.\ufffd  It would be
\ninstructive to know what she considers a liberal Catholic to be.<\/font><\/p>\n

\ufffdIt\ufffds actually worse than this.  The October 12
\nedition of the PBS program, \ufffdTo the Contrary,\ufffd showed Pelosi playing host to
\nanti-Catholics.  Frances Kissling and other staff members of the
\nnotoriously anti-Catholic organization Catholics for a Free Choice, were
\nfeatured walking out of Pelosi\ufffds office after a lobbying session.<\/font><\/p>\n

\ufffdPelosi\ufffds contacts with these anti-Catholics is nothing
\nnew: in 1995 she was critical of the U.S. bishops for blasting Kissling\ufffds outfit
\nas anti-Catholic.  At that time, the bishops objected to the inclusion of
\nKissling\ufffds group at the U.N. Conference on Women that was to be held in
\nBeijing.  In reference to Kissling, William Cardinal Keeler, then head of
\nthe bishops\ufffd conference, said \ufffdTo use the name Catholic to promote the taking of
\ninnocent life is offensive.\ufffd  Pelosi defended Kissling saying \ufffdMany women
\nare concerned about freedom of speech and association at the conference. 
\nAccreditation should not be a politicized process.\ufffd  It is not surprising,
\nthen, that Pelosi refuses to condemn the DNC for its support for Kissling\ufffds
\ngroup today.<\/font><\/p>\n

\ufffdIn short, Pelosi\ufffds spin game is insulting.  No
\nconservative Catholic we know okays the killing of kids 80 percent
\nborn.\ufffd<\/font>
