The myth that a candidate for public office must be pro-abortion
\nto stand a chance of winning exploded last Tuesday when opposition to abortion
\nplayed a key role in many of the victories that gave Republicans control of the
\nSenate and increased their majority in the House. <\/font><\/p>\n

According to Pro-Life Infonet (www.prolifeinfo.org) as
\ncited by Crisis magazine’s Deal Hudson :<\/font><\/p>\n

Fully eight of the top ten Senate races in the country
\nwere won by pro-life candidates, and other pro-life incumbents managed to keep
\ntheir seats as well.<\/p>\n

Two-thirds of the newly elected House officials are
\nalso pro-life.<\/p>\n

17 of the 22 candidates sponsored by EMILY’s List – a
\nveritable who’s who of pro-abortion politicians – were defeated.<\/p>\n

Exit
\npolls conducted by such sources such as Fox News confirmed that many voters had
\nabortion on their minds when they went to the polls – and the overwhelming
\nmajority of those voters were pro-life. In Missouri, 17 percent of voters said
\nabortion was their number one concern, second only to the economy (21 percent),
\nin voting for a senator. Of those 17 percent, 80 percent voted for pro-life
\ncandidate Jim Talent over incumbent pro-choice Senator Jean Carnahan.<\/font><\/p>\n

The legislative director of National Right to Life said:
\n“It would certainly be fair to say Sen. Carnahan was defeated on the pro-life
\nissue.”<\/font><\/p>\n

Fourteen percent of Minnesota voters said abortion was
\ntheir top concern, the third- highest single issue named. Nine percent of the
\nvoters in Georgia felt the same way. Of these voters, the vast majority voted
\nfor pro-life candidates – candidates that went on to big wins.<\/p>\n

Hawaii’s
\nprevious governor was pushing a bill that would make them the second state to
\nlegalize assisted suicide. Instead, voters chose his challenger, Laura Lingle,
\nwho has promised to veto any such bill in the future.<\/p>\n

Voters in Nevada
\nalso said a decisive “no” to homosexual marriages, another win for the culture
\nof life.<\/font>
