{"id":8866,"date":"2002-11-10T13:23:34","date_gmt":"2002-11-10T18:23:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/2002\/11\/10\/abortion-defeats-pro-choice-candidates\/"},"modified":"2002-11-10T13:23:34","modified_gmt":"2002-11-10T18:23:34","slug":"abortion-defeats-pro-choice-candidates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/2002\/11\/abortion-defeats-pro-choice-candidates\/","title":{"rendered":"Abortion Defeats Pro-Choice Candidates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=#3333ff>The myth that a candidate for public office must be pro-abortion<br \/>\nto stand a chance of winning exploded last Tuesday when opposition to abortion<br \/>\nplayed a key role in many of the victories that gave Republicans control of the<br \/>\nSenate and increased their majority in the House. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=#3333ff>According to Pro-Life Infonet (www.prolifeinfo.org) as<br \/>\ncited by Crisis magazine&#8217;s Deal Hudson :<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=#3333ff>Fully eight of the top ten Senate races in the country<br \/>\nwere won by pro-life candidates, and other pro-life incumbents managed to keep<br \/>\ntheir seats as well.<\/p>\n<p>Two-thirds of the newly elected House officials are<br \/>\nalso pro-life.<\/p>\n<p>17 of the 22 candidates sponsored by EMILY&#8217;s List &#8211; a<br \/>\nveritable who&#8217;s who of pro-abortion politicians &#8211; were defeated.<\/p>\n<p>Exit<br \/>\npolls conducted by such sources such as Fox News confirmed that many voters had<br \/>\nabortion on their minds when they went to the polls &#8211; and the overwhelming<br \/>\nmajority of those voters were pro-life. In Missouri, 17 percent of voters said<br \/>\nabortion was their number one concern, second only to the economy (21 percent),<br \/>\nin voting for a senator. Of those 17 percent, 80 percent voted for pro-life<br \/>\ncandidate Jim Talent over incumbent pro-choice Senator Jean Carnahan.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=#3333ff>The legislative director of National Right to Life said:<br \/>\n&#8220;It would certainly be fair to say Sen. Carnahan was defeated on the pro-life<br \/>\nissue.&#8221;<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=#3333ff>Fourteen percent of Minnesota voters said abortion was<br \/>\ntheir top concern, the third- highest single issue named. Nine percent of the<br \/>\nvoters in Georgia felt the same way. Of these voters, the vast majority voted<br \/>\nfor pro-life candidates &#8211; candidates that went on to big wins.<\/p>\n<p>Hawaii&#8217;s<br \/>\nprevious governor was pushing a bill that would make them the second state to<br \/>\nlegalize assisted suicide.
