When they first started their virtual confessional, Gary Brazier and Scott Huot named it Notproud.com, figuring that those willing to admit their sins online might be a little sheepish about what they’d done.<\/p>\n
Lately, Brazier has been rethinking that decision.<\/p>\n
It turns out that about half of the confessors on the site are proud of their vices.<\/p>\n
“You’d think, given what people confess, they might be a little more repentant,” Brazier said. But they “weren’t looking for redemption” when they came to the site, he added. “They were looking to say that they have a secret, or to get something off their chests and shout it out loud.”<\/p>\n
Over the past three years, Brazier and Huot have collected 15,000 confessions on their Web site, which draws about 10,000 visitors a month. The confessions are all anonymous, and are organized by a list of the seven deadly sins — Anger, Pride, Envy, Sloth, Gluttony, Greed and Lust, with a “Misc.” category, “just in case there is crossover,” Huot said.
