{"id":6973,"date":"2004-06-29T12:25:41","date_gmt":"2004-06-29T17:25:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/2004\/06\/29\/priest-returns-to-celebrate-first-mass\/"},"modified":"2004-06-29T12:25:41","modified_gmt":"2004-06-29T17:25:41","slug":"priest-returns-to-celebrate-first-mass","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/2004\/06\/priest-returns-to-celebrate-first-mass\/","title":{"rendered":"Priest returns to celebrate first mass"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wakefieldtoday.co.uk\/getEdImage.aspx?ImageID=180992\" width=\"190\" height=\"240\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"articles\">ONE of the oldest men to be ordained into the Roman Catholic Church returned<br \/>\nto the Merrie City to celebrate his first mass at a Wakefield church.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"articles\">Fr Don Forsythe, 71, jetted over from America to celebrate his ordination<br \/>\nand read mass in the home city of his late wife and the place where he lived<br \/>\nfor 12 years.<br \/>\nA congregation at St Austin&#8217;s RC Church on Wentworth Terrace heard Fr Don deliver<br \/>\nmass on Sunday morning, just two weeks after he was ordained.<br \/>\nThe grandfather, from Londonderry in Northern Ireland, told the Express how<br \/>\nWakefield held a special place in his heart because it was where he met his<br \/>\nwife, Ann Dwyer.<br \/>\n&quot;<br \/>\nI wanted to come back to Wakefield because it holds some lovely memories for<br \/>\nme&quot;, he said. &quot;I met my wife, Ann, here and I was very happily married<br \/>\nfor 38 years.<br \/>\n&quot; She died six years ago from bone leukaemia. I had suffered a stroke after<br \/>\nshe was diagnosed but she held on until I recovered because that was the sort<br \/>\nof<br \/>\nwoman she was.
