{"id":4856,"date":"2006-06-09T09:04:20","date_gmt":"2006-06-09T14:04:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/2006\/06\/09\/private-vouchers\/"},"modified":"2006-06-09T09:04:20","modified_gmt":"2006-06-09T14:04:20","slug":"private-vouchers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/2006\/06\/private-vouchers\/","title":{"rendered":"Private Vouchers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"bi\">The Denver Roman Catholic Archdiocese on Thursday announced a $3 million voucher program to help parents who can&#8217;t afford Catholic schooling for their children.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bi\">Church officials said they modeled the privately funded grant program after an embattled public-voucher system, which the Catholic Church supported, that never went into effect in Colorado. The state Supreme Court ruled the program unconstitutional in 2004.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bi\">This defeat created a need, Archbishop Charles Chaput said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bi\">&quot;I think if we had government vouchers, our Catholic schools would be full,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bi\">Chaput said giving charitable funds in the form of vouchers is not a political statement. The church intended to give parents the financial power to choose where to send their kids and how to nurture their spirituality, he said. <br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/news\/ci_3916027\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/article.png\" width=\"76\" height=\"26\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"blog\">It is good to see the Archbishop not waiting around for the government to do what should be done and to help ensure the availability of a Catholic education to those who can&#8217;t afford it (or at least not while simultaneously paying properties taxes to provide money to send other people&#8217;s kids to public schools.)
