{"id":3430,"date":"2007-11-04T17:02:20","date_gmt":"2007-11-04T22:02:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/2007\/11\/04\/maintaining-her-reputation\/"},"modified":"2007-11-04T17:02:20","modified_gmt":"2007-11-04T22:02:20","slug":"maintaining-her-reputation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/2007\/11\/maintaining-her-reputation\/","title":{"rendered":"Maintaining her reputation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"blog\">You can always expect a few laughs from<br \/>\nthe wacky religion reporting of the Times&#8217; religion reporter who Jimmy<br \/>\nAkin calls Ruth &#8220;I&#8217;m Too Dangerously Unqualified To Keep My Job&#8221;<br \/>\nGledhill. &nbsp;In her <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.timesonline.co.uk\/tol\/news\/uk\/article2777427.ece\"\ntarget=\"_blank\">latest news story<\/a> (a.k.a. op ed)<br \/>\nshe writes<br \/>\non Cherie Blair recent criticism of Muslims forcing women to wear<br \/>\nveils. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"article\">Mrs Blair&#8217;s own Church forbids the<br \/>\nordination of women, forbids women from using condoms even when their<br \/>\nhusband has been infected by HIV while working away, and denies the<br \/>\nsacrament of communion to women who are divorced and remarried without<br \/>\nan annulment, even when a woman&#8217;s first marriage has broken down<br \/>\nbecause of abandonment for a younger woman by their husband.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"blog\">Now you might wonder how an article on<br \/>\nMuslim women wearing veils can segue into Catholic Church bashing &#8211; but<br \/>\nif you did then you aren&#8217;t use to Ruth Gledhill&#8217;s writing.<\/p>\n<p>What I find highly ironic about her examples is how they are mostly<br \/>\nexamples of the Church&#8217;s view of equality. &nbsp;For example:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Women are forbidden to use female condoms, just as males<br \/>\nare forbidden to use condoms also even if their spouses have an STD.<\/li>\n<li>Both men and women who are divorced and do not have a<br \/>\ndeclaration of nullity can not&nbsp; be remarried.<\/li>\n<li>Both men and women who were abandoned by their spouse for a<br \/>\nnewer model can not be remarried.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As for women&#8217;s ordination she can take that one up with Jesus since it<br \/>\nwas his will. &nbsp;The Church neither has the power to accept or<br \/>\nforbid women&#8217;s ordination, she is just following Christ.<br \/>\n&nbsp;Besides why do they never get on the case of Buddhists and<br \/>\nMuslims for not having women monks and clerics?<\/p>\n<p>What she totally misses is that that when it comes to sexual morality<br \/>\nmen and women are held to the same standard. &nbsp;This was not<br \/>\ntrue prior to Christianity where for example only adultery by women was<br \/>\nseen as bad and women were truly second class citizens.<br \/>\n&nbsp;Though it is quite common for people to bite the hand that<br \/>\nfed you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You can always expect a few laughs from the wacky religion reporting of the Times&#8217; religion reporter who Jimmy Akin calls Ruth &#8220;I&#8217;m Too Dangerously Unqualified To Keep My Job&#8221;&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[24],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3430","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-punditry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3430","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=3430"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3430\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=3430"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=3430"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=3430"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
