{"id":3248,"date":"2007-08-23T09:52:27","date_gmt":"2007-08-23T14:52:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/2007\/08\/23\/65-baptism\/"},"modified":"2007-08-23T09:52:27","modified_gmt":"2007-08-23T14:52:27","slug":"65-baptism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/2007\/08\/65-baptism\/","title":{"rendered":"$65 Baptism?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article\"> MANILA (Reuters Life!) &#8211; A Filipino ex-convict has sponsored a baptism ceremony for some 5,000 impoverished children, saying he wanted to offer them the chance of heaven.<\/p>\n<p>Former lawmaker Mark Jimenez, who was jailed in the United States for tax evasion and illegal contributions to a Bill Clinton election campaign, also gave the children free clothes and shoes as well as paying for transportation and a reception.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;All I wanted is for them to have a chance, because the investment of the devil is so plentiful,&quot; the businessman told Reuters. &quot;You see all the advertisement that is dangerous, but we don&#8217;t have anything that relates to heaven.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Many poor Filipinos living on around 360 pesos ($7.8) a day in this predominantly Catholic country are unable to afford a private baptism, which costs around 3,000 pesos ($65).<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/uk.reuters.com\/article\/lifestyleMolt\/idUKSP6994520070823\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/article.png\" border=\"0\" height=\"26\" width=\"76\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What the heck is a &quot;private baptism&quot; and just who is charging 3,000 pesos for one? Surely not the Catholic Church in the Philippines.
