In my mail I got a “breaking news alert<\/a>” from the
\nNational Catholic Reporter.  You know it has to be pretty
\nsilly when they get in high dudgeon on something
\nconcerning the Church.  In covering The archdiocese of St.
\nLouis and the attempted ordination of women let us see what upsets them.<\/p>\n

The archdiocese of St. Louis authorized
\nthe video recording of a Catholic women’s ordination ceremony that took
\nplace in a synagogue last November. It then used the video, along with
\nphotographs apparently taken from the video, as evidence to punish a
\nCatholic nun who attended the liturgy, according to several people
\nfamiliar with the case.<\/p>\n

Sister of Charity Louise Lears was forced out of all church ministerial
\nroles and banned from receiving sacraments within the archdiocese by an
\nedict of St. Louis Archbishop Raymond Burke announced June 26.
\n     <\/p>\n

You mean the archdiocese actually
\nvideotaped a “ordination” ceremony
\nproudly advertised and announced before hand?  A faux ceremony
\nthat now entitles those who directly participate with auto
\nexcommunication. An excommunication reserved to the Holy See to remit.
\nA ceremony where those in his diocese flagrantly disobeyed their
\narchbishop and the Church.  Yeah the archdiocese would have no
\nreason to want to know who was attending this.  Then they
\ndared to actually punish a nun who was causing scandal and was
\ndisobedient by being there.  Imagine that.<\/p>\n

I also have to laugh at the word “edict”
\nwhich is what liberals call any Church document they disagree with.
\n It was actually a decree of extra-judicial adjudication.<\/p>\n

\nHowever, several people familiar with the documents, prepared by the
\narchdiocese that made up the case against her, strongly criticized what
\nthey called the “surveillance” video-taping.<\/p>\n

One of the confidential archdiocesan documents, according to
\nknowledgeable sources, was an affidavit giving permission to an
\nindividual to attend the ceremony in order to record it. The record of
\nthe ceremony is contained on two electronic discs in Lears’ file. <\/p>\n

So surveillance is now videotaping a
\nceremony open to the public.<\/p>\n

“It was a surveillance video. That’s
\nexactly what it was,” said Sean Collins, a co-pastoral associate of
\nLears at St. Cronan Parish until he resigned July 2nd, in part, he
\nsaid, to speak about what he says has been a grave injustice taken
\nagainst Lears.<\/p>\n

“What disturbs me even more is that the video taping was premeditated,”
\nhe said, referring to the affidavit authorizing it by the archdiocese.
\n Collins did not see the document firsthand, but referred to
\nothers who
\nhad seen it. <\/p>\n

Premeditated?  Well I guess in
\nthat context everything we do is premeditated.  I guess also
\nthat it wouldn’t be “disturbing” if the archdiocese had someone tape it
\nat the very last minute to avoid premeditation.  Sadly
\nprogressives crack me up when they see the grave injustice of punishing
\nsomeone who is not faithful and is totally disobedient to her bishop.
\n For them the problem is not that they do not at least give
\nreligious submission of intellect and will as per Vatican II to what
\nhas been infallibly defined by the ordinary Magisterium.  Oh
\nno it is the archdiocese’s fault for videotaping them in their extreme
\ndisobedience.<\/p>\n

The article also wonders why Sr. Lears was
\n“singled” out when the reality is that he bishop had previously issued
\na summons and canonical admonition and she failed to appear to defend
\nherself.  She was also part of a pastoral team of a St. Cronan
\nparish whereas the other religious that attended were part of religious
\norders directly and not working for the archdiocese.<\/p>\n

Videotaping will send women back to the bad old days of secret ordinations on riverboats. Oh the shame.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
