Librivox<\/a> is a great site where
\npeople volunteer and create audiobooks by reading and reading titles
\nthat are available in public domain.  In an open source style
\nyou might have multiple people all working on different chapters of the
\nbook or have just one person do the whole book.  I have
\nlistened to a number of books via Librivox, but there are some problems
\nwith it.<\/p>\n

Not all the readers are of the same
\nquality.  Unlike Maureen at Maria
\nLectrix<\/a> and Julie D with her
\nbook podcast<\/a> you have some people reading of questionable
\ntalent.  Now I understand this is a free service staffed by
\npeople who freely volunteer their time in making this work, but I
\nreally wish they would have auditions before volunteers could submit
\nwork.<\/p>\n

Some of the readers pretty much drive me
\ncrazy.  There is one woman with a heavy French accent which I
\nhave a real hard time understanding and she has done a lot of
\nsubmissions.  Another woman with an accent I can’t identify
\nbesides being vaguely British speaks in a monotone in a voice so low
\nthat a still small voice  sounds defining by comparison. Some
\nof the readers make Al Gore sound like a vibrant speaker, especially
\nsome of the me. Now by in large most of the readers are quite
\nserviceable from the books I have listened to and a couple sound quite
\nprofessional. One of them I especially appreciate since he has done a
\nlot of books I like and he usually does the whole book. <\/p>\n

Now though I sample listening to the
\nchapters first and if I find some readers who are hard to understand I
\nwill use text to voice to record the chapter instead.  It is
\npretty bad when you have to settle for a computer generated voice
\ninstead (even though modern ones are quite good.)<\/p>\n

But please, Librivox is not a place for
\npeople to practice their English or do their best to put you to sleep
\nwhile reading an action scene.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
