{"id":16702,"date":"2020-07-26T15:34:48","date_gmt":"2020-07-26T19:34:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/?p=16702"},"modified":"2021-04-09T20:04:23","modified_gmt":"2021-04-10T00:04:23","slug":"i-had-a-joke-but","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/2020\/07\/i-had-a-joke-but\/","title":{"rendered":"I had a joke &#8230;, but"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>So on Twitter there started a series of jokes with the pattern \u201cI have a \u2026 joke, but ..\u201d with a related ending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Catholic Twitter picked up on this with their own take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So this was my first set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I have a Carmelite joke, but I am not attached to it.<\/li><li>I have a Franciscan joke, but it is rather poor.<\/li><li>I have a Dominican joke, but it is for the dogs.<\/li><li>I have a Jesuit joke, but it can\u2019t be said in dissent company.<\/li><li>I have a Benedictine joke, but it\u2019s poisonous.<\/li><li>I have a Trappist joke, but I can\u2019t speak of it.<\/li><li>I have a Paulist joke, I will tell it if you press me.<\/li><li>I have a Salesians joke, I kid you not.<\/li><li>I have a Missionaries of Charity joke, but you will be sari to hear it.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Then later a couple more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I had a joke about a plenary indulgence, but nobody got it.<\/li><li>I had a joke about receiving Communion, but my Bishop disallowed it because it was tongue-in-cheek.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A quick sampling of others I found:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I have a good Dante joke but you have to go through hell to get to punchline. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JennaSaisQuoi87\">Jenna @JennaSaisQuoi87<\/a><\/li><li>I have a killer memento mori joke. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/pursuedbytruth\">Sr. Theresa Aletheia<\/a><\/li><li>I have an Aquinas joke and five responses to that joke and Aquinas\u2019 response to each of those responses <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Japesentner\/status\/1286817690833780737\">@Japesentner<\/a><\/li><li>I have a joke about abortionists, but it will suck the life out of you\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/obianuju\/status\/1287349383244271616\">Obianuju Ekeocha@obianuju<\/a><\/li><li>I have a joke about Pentecostalism but you can\u2019t understand it. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/becominghinged\/status\/1287369479530450944\">@becominghinged<\/a><\/li><li>I have a St. Stephen joke, but I have to be stoned to tell it. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EyeOfTheTiber\/status\/1287089073643859969\">@EyeOfTheTiber<\/a><\/li><li>i have a joke about St. Peter in chains, but it escapes me <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DawnofMercy\/status\/1287060248822521857\">@DenverGregg<\/a><\/li><li>I have a joke about accidents, but you wouldn\u2019t understand the substance. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShamelessPapist\/status\/1287065221660585989\">@ShamelessPapist<\/a><\/li><li>I have a joke about apostolic succession but the sedevacantists tell me it peters out. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DawnofMercy\/status\/1287060248822521857\">@DawnofMercy<\/a><\/li><li>I have a joke about eternity but I can\u2019t tell it to you because it has no beginning and no end. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DawnofMercy\/status\/1286845600487661568\">@DawnofMercy<\/a><\/li><li>I have a joke about the GIRM but most people probably wouldn\u2019t follow it. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CantareAmantis\/status\/1286852167127707648\">@CantareAmantis<\/a><\/li><li>I have a good Tolkien joke but I\u2019m going to spend the rest of my life expanding on and revising it and my son will have it published after my death. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TeawithTolkien\/status\/1286820972495085575\">@TeawithTolkien<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I learned of this joke format via Deacon Greydanus on Facebook and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/stevengreydanus?__cft__[0]=AZVO4BMEUQcXG_cLTNdduoyYbyMLEt5sMhF2QQ8An2swJ0M8Ime4jt5ZP3Ysb1_LOZm4mvujtXNmv32fDxZ1eiw06Qnf9oTPt8N7ud72EvYs5ifcK8QSHjEBEsqJGdiIUzFz1DpWGXqU-fX7ccb3nS1A&amp;__tn__=-UC%2CP-R\">these were his contributions<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have a joke about St. Jerome but it\u2019s vulgar.<br>\nI have a joke about Donald Glover but it\u2019s childish.<br>\nI have a joke about St. Francis but it\u2019s for the birds.<br>\nI have a joke about Longinus and his companions, but it\u2019s dicey.<br>\nI have a joke about St. Francis de Sales but it\u2019s controversial.<br>\nI have a joke about Magritte\u2019s pipe. This isn\u2019t it.*<br>\nI posted a joke yesterday about St. Augustine but I had to retract it.<br>\nI have a joke about Johann Reuchlin but it\u2019s too obscure.**<br>\nI have a Baudrillard joke but it\u2019s not original.<strong>*<br>\n* Updated!
