{"id":14878,"date":"2014-10-29T17:54:16","date_gmt":"2014-10-29T21:54:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/?p=14878"},"modified":"2014-10-29T17:54:16","modified_gmt":"2014-10-29T21:54:16","slug":"lost-in-translation-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/2014\/10\/lost-in-translation-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Lost in Translation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Maureen aka <em>suburbanbanshee<\/em> posts <a href=\"http:\/\/otritt.wordpress.com\/2014\/10\/29\/worst-vatican-translation-yet\/\">Worst Vatican Translation Yet<\/a> at # <a href=\"http:\/\/otritt.wordpress.com\">Over the Rhine and Into the Tiber<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>On October 27th, Pope Francis addressed the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and talked about evolution as one of God\u2019s probable methods of Creation.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/deaconsbench\/2014\/10\/pope-francis-on-evolution-god-is-not-a-magician\/\">News reports in English<\/a>\u00a0had the Pope saying, \u201cGod is not a divine being.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What the Pope actually said was, \u201c\u2026.Dio non \u00e8 un demiurgo\u2026.\u201d which is the Italian for \u201cGod is not a demiurge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In heretical Gnostic theology, the creator of the material universe was an evil or depressed lesser being called the Demiurge [Builder] who was often identified with Satan, whereas God was a higher being (or beings, or eight beings, or\u2026.) who never wanted matter created at all. Christian Gnostics justified this term (like many others they used) because it was used once in the Bible in Hebrews 11:10 \u2013 \u201cFor [Abraham] looked for a city that has foundations, the Architect and Builder of which is God.\u201d (Of course St. Paul didn\u2019t mean it like they meant it.)<\/p>\n<p>So yeah, maybe some of you will believe me now about the pathetic inaccuracy of the current Vatican English translations.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I do have to wonder if the English translator is a native English speaker or not since there have been so many egregious translations. Is there even a team that cross-checks translatons?
