{"id":13870,"date":"2013-02-28T19:11:32","date_gmt":"2013-03-01T00:11:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/?p=13870"},"modified":"2013-02-28T21:14:44","modified_gmt":"2013-03-01T02:14:44","slug":"his-awesomeness-archbishop-vasa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/2013\/02\/his-awesomeness-archbishop-vasa\/","title":{"rendered":"His Awesomeness, Bishop Vasa"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>The Santa Rosa Catholic Diocese is requiring its 200 schoolteachers to sign an agreement affirming that \u201cmodern errors\u201d such as contraception, abortion, homosexual marriage and euthanasia are \u201cmatters that gravely offend human dignity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That means means abiding by the Ten Commandments, going to church every Sunday and heeding God\u2019s words in thought, deed and intentions, according to a private church document that is an \u201caddendum\u201d to language in the current teachers\u2019 contract.<\/p>\n<p>The move is an effort by Bishop Robert Vasa to delineate specifically what it means for a Catholic-school teacher \u2014 whether Catholic or not \u2014 to be a \u201cmodel of Catholic living\u201d and to adhere to Catholic teaching.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When Bishop Vasa some years ago became the Bishop of the Diocese of Baker he did the same thing. No doubt there will be some similar results.<\/p>\n<p>From an unidentified teacher who fears repercussions (according to the article):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cPersonally, it\u2019s probably something that I can\u2019t sign,\u201d said a teacher at Cardinal Newman High School in Santa Rosa.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Such a loss to Catholic education if this teacher does leave. Well not really. Although I have these funny ideas about actually teaching the fullness of the faith. Still exactly why does this teacher fear repercussions?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If the teacher objects to the document and refuses to sign it than being anonymous doesn\u2019t matter.<\/li>\n<li>It only matters to remain anonymous if you plan to lie and agree to it while actually rejecting parts of the oath. The teacher wants to keep their option open and is actually considering lying.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Bishop Vasa is also the only bishop that ever responded back to me in an email. I rarely write bishops, but I did email my thanks to him for his actions in the Diocese of Baker.
