{"id":13035,"date":"2012-09-10T19:30:28","date_gmt":"2012-09-10T23:30:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/?p=13035"},"modified":"2012-09-10T19:30:28","modified_gmt":"2012-09-10T23:30:28","slug":"beijing-association-for-resistance-against-heterodox-religions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/2012\/09\/beijing-association-for-resistance-against-heterodox-religions\/","title":{"rendered":"Beijing Association for Resistance Against Heterodox Religions"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Currently on exhibit in China\u2019s capital is a curious display of large placards describing the \u201cevil deeds\u201d of \u201cheterodox religious cults.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit was organized and sponsored by the Beijing Association for Resistance Against Heterodox Religions, and features descriptions of \u201cheterodox cults\u201d throughout the world, including quotes by cult leaders. What is most disturbing about this display is that the images of these cults and their leaders are largely depicted as what at first appears to be Catholic, even though Catholicism is not mentioned on any of the placards.<\/p>\n<p>On \u201cPlacard 20,\u201d the title, which states, \u201cStirring the People Into Rebellion,\u201d is accompanied by cartoon images of Wang Yongmin, the cult leader, who is wearing a red skullcap, pectoral cross, and a red bishop\u2019s cape, though Yongmin is not Catholic.<\/p>\n<p>Placard 15 depicts a cult identified in the title as \u201cThe only \u2018Holy Spirit New Testament [Protestant] Church\u2019,\u201d which was established in Hong Kong. This group remains notorious in China for promoting Hong Kong and Taiwan independence from the Mainland. Again, the leader is depicted wearing the clothes of a Catholic bishop, despite the fact that the group identifies itself as \u201cProtestant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Placard 19 describes a Chinese cult called the \u201cChangshou Teaching,\u201d led by a man named Li Changshou. Again, this cult identifies itself as Jidujiao (Protestant), but Li is depicted wearing a Roman collar, red skullcap, and a bishop\u2019s pectoral cross.<\/p>\n<p>And in one odd cartoon, Li Changshou is featured next to a crucifix, though the corpus is a small version of Li himself, round glasses, red skullcap, and all.
