{"id":12380,"date":"2012-04-30T17:29:05","date_gmt":"2012-04-30T21:29:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/?p=12380"},"modified":"2012-04-30T17:29:05","modified_gmt":"2012-04-30T21:29:05","slug":"pepsico-stops-using-aborted-fetal-cell-lines-to-test-flavor-enhancers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.splendoroftruth.com\/curtjester\/2012\/04\/pepsico-stops-using-aborted-fetal-cell-lines-to-test-flavor-enhancers\/","title":{"rendered":"PepsiCo Stops Using Aborted Fetal Cell Lines to Test Flavor Enhancers"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Children of God for Life announced today the stunning news that PepsiCo will not use aborted fetal cell line HEK-293 (human embryonic kidney) in their contractual agreement with Senomyx to develop flavor enhancers for their beverages.<\/p>\n<p>Children of God for Life\u2019s Executive Director, Debi Vinnedge, hailed PepsiCo\u2019s decision as a major breakthrough and achievement by thousands of concerned consumers who have been writing and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/news\/pro-life-groups-call-for-pepsi-boycott-over-aborted-fetal-cell-lines\">boycotting<\/a>\u00a0PepsiCo beverages since last May.<\/p>\n<p>In a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cogforlife.org\/pepsiresponse042012.pdf\">letter<\/a>\u00a0to Children of God for Life, PepsiCo\u2019s VP of Global Public Policy, Paul Boykas stated that \u201cSenomyx will not use HEK cells or any other tissues or cell lines derived from human embryos or fetuses for research performed on behalf of PepsiCo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are absolutely thrilled with PepsiCo\u2019s decision,\u201d stated Mrs. Vinnedge. \u201cThey have listened to their customers and have made both a wise and profound statement of corporate integrity that deserves the utmost respect, admiration and support of the public.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In speaking with Mr. Boykas, Vinnedge noted that the company had conducted internal discussions, recognizing it was a highly sensitive and controversial subject that quite frankly, was not in the best interests of PepsiCo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe took the matter very seriously,\u201d stated Mr. Boykas. \u201cWe have an official\u00a0Statement on Responsible Research and we intend to live by that policy.\u201d [<a href=\"http:\/\/catholiclane.com\/pepsico-stops-using-aborted-fetal-cell-lines-to-test-flavor-enhancers\/\" target=\"_blank\">Source<\/a>]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That is good news, but just last month <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2012\/03\/29\/pepsi-continues-denying-using-fetal-cells-in-flavor-testing\/\" target=\"_blank\">they said<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Jeff Dahncke, PepsiCo senior director for communications, thanked The Washington Times in an email for \u201cgiving us the opportunity to clarify misperceptions and erroneous media reports on the topic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPepsiCo does not conduct or fund research, including research performed by third parties, that utilizes any human tissue or cell lines derived from embryos or fetuses.
