This is simply proof that the corruption of faith at Notre Dame isn't limited to Jenkins, but goes all the way up through the administration, to the trustees.

What's going on among the majority of intelligent, thoughtful, morally secure Catholics should be telling you something about yourself and those that lead you, not them.

I'm watching USC (I hope) whip ND.

First time in my life I'm rooting for USC over ND.

I am horrified when I contemplate liberal, Obama-worshipping, brainwashed, financially insecure (abortion is an acceptable price to pay for the government providing for ME ME ME) so-called Catholics attending classes at Neuter Damn; and what it reveals about the disobedient, heretical, schismatic renegades that run the place.

Yes, Jenkins and the board are sliding fast. However, much of the student population is fighting for the church. My son is a 4th degree Knight of Columbus on campus where Bishop Darcy came for the "other" graduation last spring. There are so many good Catholics at ND and so much pro life work going on there with outspoken professors and such. Please don't condemn the entire university. It's pride that has gotten in the way for Jenkins and the Board. They need our prayers for softened hearts. And they need correction by the Pope.

I don't think it's extreme to believe that these people are planning to give their Institutions over to a Patriotic American Catholic Church when the Government makes a play for the Catholic hospitals as part of Health Care Reform.

The stage is set. They won't be able to stand for 1/6th of the Hospitals not falling in line with their anti-life agenda. They will have to do something and destroying the Authority of the Church (at least in their minds) in the US will have many political advantages.

China has set the model.

Be prepared to join the faithful in the underground Church when this happens.

Correction by the Pope is only feasible for those who believe in the authority of his God-given office. He doesn't issue fatwas. He doesn't even have veto power at ND. If Jenkins or the trustees had a deep appreciation for guidance from the magesterium, they would already be running the university quite differently. It's not as though the last 2 popes failed to teach faith and morals clearly.

Jesus will separate the wheat from the tares, but I can see now why he knew that we'd be chafing to do it ourselves.

Let me suggest that people who are "intelligent, thoughtful, morally secure" don't have to stoop to insults.

This is incredible, but one cannot be surprised. Catholic Universities and Colleges have been watering down our faith for decades in the name of "intellectual debate".

It will all come out in the wash. Count on it.

Jeff, I know it doesn't seem to be doing any good but please keep up the heat on this guy & his "trustees". They might as well of slapped Blessed Mother in the face on May 17.

Arresting pro-life protesters is the mark of living your faith.

In the sense that he's enabling a hallmark of Christian life, being persecuted by the world for the sake of Truth, then, his claim is backhandedly true--but I doubt he's aware of the depth of irony in that implication.

If "intelligent, thoughtful, and morally secure" are put forth as the distinguishing characteristics of a particular group of putative followers of Jesus Christ, I can't help wondering in what ways these followers may be said to differ from a spiritual being who is renowned for his high intelligence and his security in his moral choices. I won't mention his name, but there have been many songs and poems written about him. One goes:

"Pleased to meet you. Hope you guess my name.
But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game."

I find it very uncharitable the name calling that people do to the University at which I got my graduate degree in theology.

Please stop the mud slinging.

I find it very hypocritical how many catholics don't trust the media on catholic issues then when something stupid is said by or done by an official at the University of Notre Dame and it is reported by the media everyone all of a sudden takes what the media has reported as gospel truth.

Haven't you all learned that the media only wants ratings. Eucharistic processions, daily mass in all the dorms, holy hours, morning prayers, benediction, (and the list can go on) are are not news worthy stories as they do not generate ratings like a stupid semi-heretical comment by a well known faculty member or president.

I assure you that ND is MUCH MORE orthodox than the media and common Catholic like to believe.

I would gladly take my ND theology education over a CUA, FUS, Crysostom, or Belmont Abbey theological education any day for a number of reason: one of which is catholicity.

It isn't the leader of an institution that makes the University Catholic or not.

Remember, there were a few years where the people who filled the Papacy were not the most superb.

Paul, as far as I know, every time I've addressed ND, it has been focused on what the admin did rather than taking a swipe at the school as a whole. I think JM does a good job of this as well. And I (and I'm pretty sure Jeff) knows that there are good Catholics at Notre Dame. See The Irish Rover for instance.

It's true that the school is more than its president, but that just goes to show how much scandal and division sucks--one bad president can do lots of collateral damage.

I noticed that. Thank you. The comment wasn't addressed at Jeff. It was addressed at the individuals who want to burn the orchard because the farmer doesn't feel like fertilizing his crop.
