Making the Know-Nothings appear smart by comparison

Sometimes bad reporting on the Catholic Church is just plain funny for being so bad.

And nowhere is the full impact of the Knights of Columbus' efforts felt than in the fight against awarding same-sex couples marriage rights.

In what turned out to be the largest total contribution from a single organization, $1.4 million of the Yes on 8 campaign's coffers came from the tax-exempt Knights of Columbus, based in New Haven, Connecticut. The Catholic Church operates its legislative efforts through the little understood entity, of which nearly all Catholic bishops and priests are members.

Whaaat? "The Catholic Church operates its legislative efforts through the little understood entity"? I guess there is a red phone for the special line between the Pope and the Supreme Knight to discuss their strategies for legislative efforts.

Obscure Catholic group
On its Web site the group proclaims itself as "the strong right arm of the Catholic Church."

To LGBT activist Jerry Sloan, the group is "an obscure and uniquely tax-exempt insurance company acting under the guise of a fraternal order."

Rather, one IRS qualifier for the tax-exempt code states, "membership must be limited." Like the priesthood, the Knights of Columbus membership is restricted to Catholic men. (Oh No! But rather ironic criticism from a male homosexual activist) Among those men are "almost every, if not all, bishops and most priests," explained Korten.

I don't know the percentage of Bishops/Priests are part of the KoC, but this sounds like hyperbole.

It's about time someone exposed this group of nefarious villians! Just wait until Dan Brown reveals all in his next page-turner, "The Actuarial Code." It's the story of how the Knights are descended from Jesus' second-cousin Frank, who initiated a global conspiracy to provide working stiffs with affordable life insurance.

I've seen this coming for years...the way they try to hide out and blend in with the rest of us by carrying swords and wearing tuxedos and hats with giant feather plumes.

"the way they try to hide out and blend in with the rest of us by carrying swords and wearing tuxedos and hats with giant feather plumes."

Following the link, I see this article came from the Bay Area Reporter. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but isn't wearing tuxedos and hats with giant feather plumes considered blending in around those parts? At least on parade days?

Wow, I'm part of a super-secret Catholic legislative order bent on conquest and stuff. Dude, that makes me almost as cool as albino assassin-monk!

Welcome to "the information society".

Thomas Jefferson once suggested that newspapers divide their pages into four parts: "truths", "half-truths". "speculations" and "lies". The fourth page, he explained, would be for those who would rather have lies for their money than just blank paper. I think he was banking on editors being able to tell the difference.

I'd go on, but it's time for me to put on my tux, cloak and fore-and-aft and go manipulate the legal system in the name of the Church.

"Whaaat? "The Catholic Church operates its legislative efforts through the little understood entity"? I guess there is a red phone for the special line between the Pope and the Supreme Knight to discuss their strategies for legislative efforts."

And the Holy Father uses a bat signal with a mitre so the Supreme Knight knows he's needed.

While getting ready for work I keep Ewtn on and this particular a flim on St. Bernadette was on. During this scene the Prussian army was comimg and some mealy-mouth gov. offical was prodding St. B for some insight or advantage. St. B was disintrested causing the gov. dufus to ask "aren't you afraid of the Prussians? She says "no" I am only afraid of bad Catholics. I would [cry} baby boomers to that discription of bad Catholics!

p

The uber-pazzo that wrote that might be a cousin of mine. That having been said:

"Knox noted that the Knights of Columbus "followed discredited leaders,"

Discredited by who?

Those devious secretive knights. We keep our mandates of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism a secret by putting them on web pages, church bulletins, flyers, and pamphlets knowing that no one actually looks at those things.

When we take off our uniforms, we put on glasses and take low-profile day jobs so that no one will recognize us as well. For years, even our wives only suspected but could never prove the double life we were leading.

We grew up on a planet where our sins had higher than normal gravity and so when we receive the come to earth and experience reconciliation from the raise of the yellow son, we become faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Look, up in the sky! Wait for the Word, the sermon on the plains, it's super-knight.

And as a member of the Council that the Supreme Knight belongs to, let me just say that we that that red phone just never ceases lighting up.

of which nearly all Catholic bishops and priests are members.

I wish.

Ah, yes, all those secret Sunday evening dinners with wives and other guests in attendance. "Psssst -- the secret execution orders are in the second drumstick. Pass it on."

Makes me wonder what kind of mind control drugs are in the catfish.

This is why I joined the Knights!

The secrecy! The swords! The hats! The red phone! Rubbing shoulders with bishops! The insurance! I ask you, what's not to like?

Bill (new to the Knights, but inspired)

Just wait until Dan Brown reveals all in his next page-turner, "The Actuarial Code."

Ron Howard has already made a movie about another Dan Brown book, Angels and Demons. It's about the Illumnati and it's due out in May.

Thank you for this! I nearly fell off my chair laughing! And you guys -your commment are PRFICELESS!!!

Oops -PRICELESS. Laughing too hard to type correctly!

Now I'm even more proud to be a Knight!

Little understood? Sheesh.

Mark Stricherz writes: "As late as the 1960s, the Democratic Party was the political agent of the Catholic Church. In Connecticut, the state Democratic Party held its nominating convention at the biggest Knights of Columbus hall in Hartford. Almost all of the top national party officials were Irish Catholics. "

Also, from http://historymatters.gmu.edu/d/5073/

Alabama U.S. Sen. Thomas J. Heflin on the 1928 election, criticizing the KofC for asking the Dems to condemn the Klan:

'"The Knights of Columbus slogan,“ said Doctor Chapman, . . . ”is make America Catholic." Here they tell you in their book that they will force the propaganda of Protestants to cease, they will lay the heavy hand of a Catholic state upon you and crush the life out of Protestantism in America.'

"Little understood" means "I don't understand and don't want to." The KofC has a fine history in the US. Its opponents have generally not been admirable, a tradition that continues to this day.

You have to watch those devious Knights! Among other non-denominational support that this organization gives to the community, it has though fundraising contributed nearly $400M to the Special Olympics and other programs that support those with intellectual and physical disabilities. Rather than being hateful and suspicious, see the good in your fellow man by helping and following the teachings of Christ.

The Curt Jester

A former atheist who after spending forty years in the wilderness finds himself with both astonishment and joy a member of the Catholic Church. This blog presents my hopefully humorous and sometimes serious take on things religious, political, and whatever else crosses my mind.

Blessed Miguel Pro, S.J.

Known as "God's Jester" was a martyr for the faith and a man of wisdom, fun, tricks, poetry, song, and dance. Thus seemed an appropriate Patron Saint of this blog.
