A Tale of Two Trips

John Allen Jr. provides some good analysis on the Popes trip to Cameroon and how the coverage was disparate from the actual reactions to his visit from Africans. Especially interesting is the Pope's prudent rebuke of former seminarian and strongman who is Cameroon's President Paul Biya.

Amazing. This is a great link!!
I honestly don't know much about Cameroom, but isn't it amazing that the Pope publically rebukes a leader that (I suppose, though don't know myself and haven't kept up on it) has abused his power; the next day the only Cardinal in the country publically calls for the country's leader to not run for reelection, and the press barely has covered that. You might think any public comments about abuse of power in Africa might warrant a mention, considering people take their lives in their hands by making such comments. But our press acts like the cartoon character in Bugs Bunny who hears the word "bet" (as in "bet, bet bet!!") and they can't see or hear anything else besides "condoms." Bunch of lemmings. Truly.

Thanks for the great link to the excellent article. Can we nominate Cardinal Onaiyeken for something important? Also, the discussion of the needs of developing countries was very enlightening.

John Allen came across as somewhat patronizing, both to the Holy Father and to the African people.

I also thought Mr. Allen was patronizing to our Pope as were many of the comments to his article. You would think the press and Mr. Allen especially would have figured out by now that the Pope knows exactly what he is saying and doing. None of these so called mistakes are such. He is not afraid of proclaiming the truth no matter how unpopular or how many get upset. I think it is great when he does this and the result is that the dissenters, who have been hiding among the faithful for years, reveal themselves and their false beliefs.

We are starting to see an escallation in the dividing of the true Catholics from the Catholics in name only. It was invevitable that a Pope would have to stand up and fight for the truth and let the chips fall where they may. This is a pre separating of the goats from the sheep if you will. Protestants of strong faith will become Catholic and Catholics of weak faith will become protestant. We have seen this start to happen already. We may even see the emergence of the "American" catholic church made up of parishes who have taken on our culture's values and separate themselves from the real Catholic Church in America. We have seen hints of this in the rebel parish in St. Louis and overseas in Austrailia with Fr. Kennedy's rebellion. There are many others out there just waiting for the fuse to be lit so they can have an excuse to separate and build a church in their own image. Will a third of the stars fall from the sky again? I think there is a good chance of that happening. So the question is, who in your family will remain a true Catholic and who will fall for the false church? The ground work is being laid by dissenting groups around the country such as Voice of the Faithful and those lawmakers in Conneticut. The coming persecution will not only be from without but will be even worse from within. We know that Satan will not prevail against the Church but who will be the casualties?

What a pity that Mr Allen and his athiest frient seem to confuse the Sacrifice of the Mass with a pop concert. Perhaps they weren't the only ones.
