Dominican Obamians

First off Fr. Philip Neri Powell, OP links to what he calls "Cringe-worthy comments from Domlife.org". And indeed they are quite cringe-worthy, though there are still some who realize what Obama's election means to the innocent in the womb. The difference between two Dominican nuns commenters part of the Adrian Dominicans was quite stark.

Tom of Disputations also looks at these comments and notices " complete lack of any residue of Dominican formation in many of the comments. How many could have been written by just about any politically liberal American and posted to just about any politically liberal American comment board? Does contemplation of the truth really add so little to political observation?"

The comments are rather amazing considering that they are all from vowed Dominicans or Lay Dominicans. Somehow I can't see St. Thomas Aquinas writing a defense for voting for President-elect Obama. More likely a Sed Contra in response for such a defense.

With Dominicans like these it is no surprise that St. Thomas Aquinas seems to be stepping in and helping out the pro-life movement himself. Here is a wonderful story of how St. Thomas Aquinas figures in the conversion of a former abortionist in Serbia personally responsible for performing 48 thousand abortions.

On behalf on my OP family members...I apologize!

This is shameful event for me...I am embarrassed to my core.

Fr. Philip, OP

"I heard of Barack Obama's election at a course of lectures that I am giving to deacons, in the north of England. Everyone was delighted and agrees that it is a wonderful moment. After years in which America has increasingly be seen as a country which threatens the freedom and development of other countries, as giving up on human rights and consenting to torture, at last here is someone who can be a figure of hope for the whole planet. But, our heartfelt prayer is that his life will be spared from some crazy assassin!" (Timothy Radcliffe OP)

OUch. Sorry, Fr Philip, that has to hurt. If only TR would think to pray that millions of babies waiting to be born will be spared from "some crazy assassin"!! As if the unborn children in the wombs of women on this planet are not, themselves, on this planet. As if, when we shut our bedroom doors, we are no longer on this planet, and therefore assassins may kill us and call the killing "a renewal of hope" or something.
Someone ( :) ) should fisk those comments. They are prime fisking material.
Ir's time to realize that most of America, (and most of Europe?)including 40-something percent of Catholics, has gone mad. Again it occurs to me that what is needed is not persuasion to the truth, but deliverance from a post-seduction illness.
Anyone who doesn't think so should go and pray at an abortion facility, where many bold acts of cruelty are carried out today in the name of Obama, sometimes coupled shockingly with false justification from the Beatitudes he twisted.
Hmmm. The comments of these Dominicans reflect about a 12:1 ratio of lies:truth. Isn't that the reverse of what we should expect from Christ's disciples? Hopefully, things are not the same with today's apostles!!!

Domlife.org unfortunately has been essentially taken over by more progressive types, who do not tend to be too inclusive of more traditional/conservative (heck, I'll just name it: faithful) Dominicans. You can see some the history at the Disputations blog. I mean, if you kick out Tom, a most moderate and temperate voice of reason, what hope do you have?

On behalf of the "other" OPs: Nostra culpa, nostra culpa, nostra culpa maxima.

The Curt Jester

A former atheist who after spending forty years in the wilderness finds himself with both astonishment and joy a member of the Catholic Church. This blog presents my hopefully humorous and sometimes serious take on things religious, political, and whatever else crosses my mind.

Blessed Miguel Pro, S.J.

Known as "God's Jester" was a martyr for the faith and a man of wisdom, fun, tricks, poetry, song, and dance. Thus seemed an appropriate Patron Saint of this blog.
