Celebrating pride

As announced in the Saint Joan of Arc bulletin last week:
Pride Week at SJA: Please join us on Wednesday, June 25 at 7 pm in the church for a prayer service to celebrate and give thanks for the gifts of our Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgendered community. Celebrate with us in prayer and song - we'll be joined by guest musician and SJA favorite Ann Reed. This service is part of Pride week in the Twin Cities. FFI on the week's events contact Julie Madden at the Parish Center.

Hopefully Archbishop Nienstedt will put a stop to this if he hears about it. Most Holy Redeemer in San Francisco will not be publicly involved the the gay pride parade there this year as they have in years past.

The so-called "Peter Canisius" (google the saint) is a troll. Still, give him his due. He knows what buttons to push...and his facts are usually right. In this case, it looks like they definitely are.
So, I'll give him his plug. He's no doubt emailed everybody in the Catholic blog-o'-sphere, so why not.
Maybe that archdiocese could also schedule some events celebrating my interest in fornicating with Natalie Portman. I know the Church doesn't approve of fornication but I was born this way so I guess it's perfectly natural.
I mean, if I'm not going to define my identity based upon my sexuality, then from where could I possible derive such a definition?
We have this same problem in the Archdiocese of Washington DC. There is one parish w/ a VOTF chapter -- Holy Trinity in DC -- and one other that allows them to meet -- St. Rose of Lima in Gaithersburg.
All of the VOTF members continue to claim that they are not dissenters, but when presented with the facts they ignore them or claim that the information posted is just an opinion.
Unfortunately, our Archbishop refuses to do anything about it, while they continue to undermine the Church.
No doubt dccatholic. No one could look at the speakers VOTF brings in and conclude this is a group of straight shooters. James Carroll?!
The good news is that it seems these guys are fizzling. They rode in on the storm of the sex-abuse scandals in a kind of Catholic version of Shock Doctrine. They've met their Stalingrad and while they can still do damage, I don't see them making any more advances beyond small gatherings of the usual malcontents.
I don't find this offensive. They are having a prayer service to give thanks for their members who are part of the GLBT Community. Would you prefer that they be harassed and vilified? Where is the Christian Charity here? From what I hear the Archbishop has a disdain for gay people. I know that some Catholics are homophobes and would like gays out of the Church but we are a diverse Church. The Church isn't just made up of white heterosexuals and people need to get used to it.

Why do we need to celebrate sin? Next time shall we celebrate those couples who have sex outside of marriage? Or how about we celebrate women who get an abortion?
Sexual sins are sexual sins and they should never be celebrated. While I have no doubt that a gay person could very well live a chaste and holy life, it doesn't make them any more special then a straight person who does the same thing.

Short answer: No.
Long answer: What I would prefer is if politically correct liberal types stopped defining those with SSA by their orientation and that we worked to have everyone live the vocation to which they are called. For those with SSA, it is a life of chastity.
And, for the record, I've noted - not without a deep sense of irony - some rather vicious attacks on those with SSA who live chastely by people who turn around and tell the Church to celebrate sin in all its forms.

We can be as "diverse" as we like - but we cease being a Church when members start going against the teaching of the Church and celebrating sin.
The Christian charity comes in trying to help all members of the community attain the ultimate goal of a relationship with God and eternity in heaven; that is not done by condoning, supporting, or encouraging sin in any way, shape or form.
Indeed, eternal punishment will be most severe for those who - in positions of leadership and trust in the Church - take their flocks into territories of sin.

Charity without Truth isn't charity at all.

One of the spiritual works of mercy is "admonish the sinner".
Don't confuse "Christian charity" with "I'm ok, you're ok".
I am fairly certain St. Joan of Ark is not a real Catholic parish.

A similar example of the ugliness that crawls out from the rocks when anyone mentions the "C" word is Dawn Eden. The nasty stuff directed at her sounds from the very depths of Hell.
