I use to respect pro-life Democrat Ray Flynn, not anymore.

The Curt Jester
A former atheist who after spending forty years in the wilderness finds himself with both astonishment and joy a member of the Catholic Church. This blog presents my hopefully humorous and sometimes serious take on things religious, political, and whatever else crosses my mind.

Known as "God's Jester" was a martyr for the faith and a man of wisdom, fun, tricks, poetry, song, and dance. Thus seemed an appropriate Patron Saint of this blog.

WELL... I actually am pondering the option of voting for Hillary in the Wisconsin Primary on Feb 19th - especially if McCain has things all sewn up by then.
Why? Because she is so much less "electable" than Obama. He would get record turnouts in many states. She wouldn't (besides those who turn out to vote against her).
My only qualm about doing so is that, if the strategy were to backfire & Hillary actually won the general election, THEN I'd feel awful.
If he were respectable, Jeff, he wouldn't be a Democrat.
Wow, that's disappointing. I guess he did technically have to vote for a democrat since he's democrat, but still, a pro-abortion like Hillary, truly disappointing.
I really don't see why this would merit losing respect for Ray Flynn. My parents are Democrats and they voted for Barack Obama. Not because they like him, but to foster a greater divide in the party. Ray Flynn is a very dedicated pro-lifer, so much that he flew back to Washington unannounced and urged Clinton "in the strongest possible terms" to let the part. birth abortion ban become law. This made Clinton furious and he was almost replaced as ambassador to the Vatican. Also, in the last election, he publicly announced that he could not vote for one of his good friends, John Kerry, because of his stance on life. I've had the pleasure of meeting Ray Flynn before and have the utmost respect for him. He is from a dying class of politicians. And I guarantee that at election time, he won't be voting for Hillary then.
I think it's rather odd that Ray Flynn remains a Democrat. I've been eligible to vote for 14 years and can proudly say I've NEVER voted for a Dem because that party is in love with the mythical "right" to abortion.
I know that there are some pro-life Democratic groups out there, but they've NEVER challenged a pro-abortion Democrat in a primary and unseated him precisely because of his pro-abortion views. The same cannot be said about pro-life Republicans; in 2006, pro-lifer Tim Walberg defeated pro-abortion Republican Joe Schwarz.
Well, at least he was accurate in citing Hell as the source of his rationale that he'd vote for anyone who gave him a job. (Sigh.)
.
Don't you think there must be more context that we're not seeing? I can't imagine a pro-lifer saying that SERIOUSLY.
I commented on this here:
http://wardrinkandthechurch.blogspot.com/2008/02/ambassador-flynn-gentleman.html
This is a primary election, not the general one. I see no big deal here. One commenter has mentioned that he may still be a registered Dem. Another suggested that he may have voted for Hilary so as to have her lose. Regardless, this is a primary election, not the general one.
Regardless, this is a primary election, not the general one.
Andy,
If Clinton doesn't win, evidently Ambassador Flynn will support Obama. From the Herald article:
If, in the end, loyalty is not enough to propel his candidate to the Democratic nomination, Flynn said he would have no trouble supporting Barack Obama. “We’ve got to get back to old-fashioned politics,” Flynn said, “when people tried to get past their differences and work with each other. It’s time. The country can’t take anymore of what’s been happening these past eight years. Democrats are in a good place this year. The country needs someone who’ll listen to their heart and trust their feelings and value old-school things like loyalty”
Dear Kelli,
That part of the Herald is the more important part than the "I voted for Hillary Clinton in the primary" part.
