Fr. Dwight the Theocon
Andrew Sullivan links to my blog in reference to my posting on what Fr. Longenecker wrote on hymns.
This is one area where my aesthetic sympathy for the theocons overwhelms my dismay with some of their theology.
I really have to laugh at the idea of Fr. Longenecker being described as a theocon, but maybe I am not privy to his secret plans to force Catholic dogma on the state. Or maybe I am just not picking up the clues and reading between the lines on his apparently totally non-political blog. But what I find really ironic is the idea of an ex-Anglican turned Catholic supporting a theocracy considering just how well that worked out.
For the record if anybody want to know I am a kneelcon.

I cannot remember where I once read this about Sullivan, nor who it was that wrote it, but I thought it worth mentioning:
"The orthodox bear with the Andrew Sullivans because (and only because) we hope that they will eventually have a change of heart and embrace the Church's teaching. The Andrew Sullivans put up with the orthodox because (and only because) they hope the orthodox will abandon their orthodoxy. We can't both be right. We can't both (conscientiously) be in good faith."
Does anyone remember who wrote this?
My hits have gone through the roof on one little post on hymns. Obviously it's a hot topic. Not only is my blog (and me) almost totally a political, but I'm afraid I didn't even know who Andrew Sullivan was before he linked to me. Neither am I sure what a 'theocon' is, but it sounds scary. Is a theocon a theological conservative who wants theocracy in America! Arrgh! You're right: I couldn't think of anything worse.
I didn't think a "theocon" was a person, Fr. Longenecker. I thought it was a con game perpetuated by shysters who makes you think you're getting authentic Church teaching and later you discover they sold you heresy.
So you're definitely not that, Fr. Longenecker!
Andrew Sullivan's definition of a "theocon" is any religious person who objects to sodomy as something opposed to God's law. So, by his lights, you, I and the entire Catholic Church are "theocons". Since he made up the term, he gets to define it.
