Playing fast and loose with the facts?
Rich Leonadi has an update on what Fr. Daly said about a neighboring indult Mass from a reader.
I just spoke to the Pastor at St. Francis deSales regarding Father Daly's Tridentine Mass column, and he is very upset. He says the article is full of lies, and he has spoken to the Auxiliary Bishop about it. First of all, as he told the Bishop, he is NOT exasperated and that this Mass is NOT a burden; he told the Bishop that if it were a burden, he would have let him know. He does not prepare two different homilies, and yes they no longer move the altar, but only because the microphone wires kept getting damaged during the process. He said that attendance is on the increase, and that it is not all elderly people and they do not attend because they want a short liturgy, because his Tridentine Mass is at least an hour long, longer than his other Masses. This priest is truly upset, and I hope Fr. Daly is called to task on this.

I see no reason why the first view should be denied, but it seems unfair that a different ANGLE was not expressed or sought by a second or third view.
Looking at that article, i couldn't help but notice the tone of the last sentences:
"The word "hypocrite" means to playact, to take on the character of someone other than oneself. My prayer is that when priests new to Latin celebrate the Tridentine Mass today they not playact --- that the Latin spoken becomes a true part of them."
Why would anyone assume that when the Mass is being said in a newly learned language, the priest would be insincere? That sounds mean. If i were to argue anything in the two views, even though I haven't experienced the Tridentine Mass yet (I am looking forward to it) I'd kick back at the "hypocrisy" remark.
There's no need to insult our priests no matter which form of the Mass we prefer.
Almost a thousand attended the Traditional Mass in Burlington VT on Assumption - in a co-cathedral that seats 1100.
Gotta love those skeptics that insist that no one (or hardly anyone) will come.

A thousand! Congratulations! I hope there were plenty of young and middle-aged believers there to debunk the popular idea that the only people who attend the Tridentine Mass are so old that they have to crawl out of their graves to put in an appearance!
Joanne - I was an organist/music director for four years at parish that held (and still holds) the extraordinary form of the Mass. That parish, Holy Name in Providence, is no stranger to the blogosphere, even to the NLM blog. We got as many at the 11:00 Traditional Mass as we did at the 9:00 Novus Ordo. We had elderly. We had young families. We had guys and gals in their fifties, etc. It was a good mix. Those who appreciate the extraordinary form are no dying breed, trust me.

Now THAT makes me smile! That's where I will go when I finally get 'a round tuit'. I figured that Mass was well attended, or they wouldn't have been offering the Latin form for so long. My 'round tuit' will come on the next day I don't have obligations at my particular parish. :) (I have an altar server and 2 choir members in my family, I teach Rel. Ed., and I have an elderly aunt who has Alzheimer's and doesn't usually adjust well to changes.) But at the next opportunity, I will drive ALL THE WAY from E. Providence to Holy Name!
I survived 3rd and part of 4th Grade at Holy Name School, btw, but I don't remember ever entering the church there. We walked to St Joseph's. I looked it up and I'm not crazy--apparently there was a fire at Holy Name Church and it was unusable for a while...
It strikea me that this Fr Daly is typical of the liberal left who have created so much pain and havoc in the church,and who seem to justify their betrayal
I am 74 and live in Norwich England and to date none of the clergy have suggested a Tridentine Mass to be said here althoug many have requested this
No doubt it will be blamed on the lack of priests,but as we all know since Vatican 2 ordinations have gone down for both priests and nuns with religious houses being closed down.Young people leaving the church,including mine,and the children of many other catholic families I know
Yet the clergy responsible for this plight appear very self righteous with the thought that its the true belivers who attend their banal services so all others can stay away as not worthy!
When I read Fr. Daly's column on Friday in our local Catholic newspaper, I dashed off a letter to is editor to challenge Fr. Daly's assertions!
