Hand Motions in Heaven

"The next great Catholic Praise song... this will be bigger than "We Are One Body"- HAND MOTIONS IN HEAVEN!"

The is from Decaf a project by Bob Rice from Franciscan University of Steubenville and Chris Padgett the former lead singer from Scarecrow and Tinman who now has a solo career.

Their website is pretty funny, especially the page on "Why are we so into Mary?"

I have listened to Chris Padgett's conversion story on Catholic radio and it was quite interesting since Scarecrow & Tinman and started out as Protestant group and over time after playing for Catholic youth groups started to look into the Catholic Church with the results of the members of the group joining the Church. I do own both of Scarecrow and Tinman's CD's and enjoy them.

Bob Rice maintains a site here and Chris Padgett's is here.

Tell them that the quote "Our tainted nature's solitary boast" is actually from a poem by William Wordsworth.

Thank you for this, Jester! I just bought four of Bob Rice's CDs and will share them with our new music guy at church. He's totally untrained in church music but is a semi-pro rock band guy. We may never have polyphony and Latin chant but maybe I can help steer him toward the Steubenville models of music.

If you like Chris Padget and you are in Ontario, he will be at a Catholic Youth Festival July 27, 28, 29. Search www.veyopeterboro.org for SONfest for details. He is incredibly funny. ("get the biggest rosary you can find, with beads the size of tennis balls, and if anyone asks you what your doing tell him "Im talking to my MAMMA, what are you doing?"")

As I ramp up for another summer week of VBS, it is goood to have a reminder not to take the "Hand Motions in Heaven", the giggle-inducing (but ultimately effective with children and GRANDPARENTS) gestures too seriously.
Maybe the laughter of all of us who have acted as fools for Jesus will prepare us to let go of some other particulars (like a few words here and there) we will initially miss when those revisions hit!
Lately, I've been thinking that our pastors might need some K-Mart training. (Fr M, clean up in aisle 9! Clean-up in aisle 9!) Etc.

I feel like an idiot. But I really don't get the name "decaf". I don't see it. Maybe I'm just a bad catholic. :-/

Bob's got another "video" out: "Hand Motion Challenge." You can see it over at Totally Catholic Youth Minister's blog (http://totallycatholicyouth.blogspot.com/) or on YouTube.

VERY hilarious!

I'd love the lyrics to the song Handmotions to Handmotions in Heaven. Would love it!

The Curt Jester

A former atheist who after spending forty years in the wilderness finds himself with both astonishment and joy a member of the Catholic Church. This blog presents my hopefully humorous and sometimes serious take on things religious, political, and whatever else crosses my mind.

My conversion story

Email Me:

Blessed Miguel Pro, S.J.

Known as "God's Jester" was a martyr for the faith and a man of wisdom, fun, tricks, poetry, song, and dance. Thus seemed an appropriate Patron Saint of this blog.
