Procession du Saint-Sacrement

The music is not the best, but my real issue is the monstrance. I don't believe that a wooden one is allowed.

What is with the size of the Blessed Sacrament? Jesus is huge!!! Sch an ugly monstrance, at least there is adoration in the largely pagan Canada.

I am filled with envy, frankly. That's a beautiful procession. Some Day, if you can't say anything nice... And Pavage, Jesus IS Huge! He's also Awesome!!

The monstrance isn't nearly ugly enough, btw. When I was a kid, our parish had one from the '30s and it was hideous and looked like it had been dropped and repaired by insane yet devoted monks.

Positive:
(1) People giving public expression of their faith.
(2) Pushing on despite the rain.
(3) Eucharist displayed publibly.

Negative:
(1) Background music.
(2) Innovative monstrance.
(3) At night? Why?
(4) Very drab overall. A public procession is a time to break out the fancy vestments, canopies, candlesticks, etc. This procession with its b/w pictures, plan vestments, was pretty drab indeed.

Come on people! I was there, and it was great. It was part of the Youth Summit in preparation for the 49 International Eucharistic Congress.

"My real issue is the monstrance. I don't believe that a wooden one is allowed." The GIRM specifically says that "Vessels that serve as receptacles for the eucharistic bread... may be made of other materials..." - including hard wood.

(1) Background music. - It's trying to promote local artists, and did you listen to the words? 'Adoremus Te...'
(2) Innovative monstrance. - It's the one that's been designed for the International Eucharistic Congress, so that it can be carried for any length of time and also so that people can see the host.
(3) At night? Why? - Because that's when it fit in - we were doing other things like evangelizing the parishes during the day. As well, it wasn't scheduled to be at night, at least I don't qualify 7:00 to be at night. We were somewhat delayed and there was a thunderstorm outside. What was beautiful was people kneeling in the mud during pelting rain as the monstrance passed by. I think that it wasn't in the city enough (evangelization) but that was the case because it was shortened by more that half due to the rain. It was fortunate that we were able to have one at all.
(4) Very drab overall. A public procession is a time to break out the fancy vestments, canopies, candlesticks, etc. This procession with its b/w pictures, plan vestments, was pretty drab indeed. - That depends on the circumstances and the pastoral needs. We had torches, incense, etc. The banners were of local Saints. The canopies we have here would rot if exposed like that. You don't seem to be taking into account that there was a thunderstorm going on.

I apologize if this sounds like an angry (etc.) post - I don't want to attack anyone, but it seems like people are too quick to dwell on the negative instead of dwelling on "whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise."
The Montee Jeunesse (Youth Summit) was a time of real prayer, of people drawing closer to God and witnessing their faith. I think that it is something to be encouraged enthusiastically instead of criticizing detractingly.

Don't take the nit-picking too seriously, Rose: this really is a good thing.

It's just sad that such a beautiful expression of reverence was -- shall we say, challenged -- by the rain.
