What were the martyrs thinking?

Faith will not dictate my positions on the issues

In answering a question by a priest on civil unions, Casey said that he doesn’t think that a politician’s position on a public policy matter can be “based on” or “mandated” by your faith.

In answering another question on religious liberty – specifically the Massachusetts situation where Catholic Charities has been threatened by its position on gay adoptions – he reiterated that faith can’t “dictate” a public official’s views on such matters.

He stressed his independence – from his party, from other factors … like faith. [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

So I guess that makes Jesus a dictator. Last I checked no one is being forced to be a Catholic so I guess he joined a dictatorship willingly. Though thinking about it what he said he really has joined a dictatorship. The one then-Cardinal Ratzinger spoke of prior to becoming pope. The dictatorship of relativism.

If the Catholic Church given to us by Christ through faith can have no bearing on a public life what we end up with is the political equivalent of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Dr. Jekyll goes to Mass and Mr. Hyde goes the the Capitol building. The phony separation of Church and state becomes at the individual level a separation of faith and works. "What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works?"

Imagine so many Protestants charging Catholics with believing in salvation by works? I guess they don't watch must C-SPAN.

What I sadly find funny is that this is what Bob Casey Jr. said for the 38th annual Pope John XXIII Lecture at the Catholic University of America's law school entitled: “Restoring America’s Moral Compass: Leadership and the Common Good” What is the point of a moral compass if you leave it in your pocket while voting? Since he supports homosexual unions and adoptions and Plan B does his moral compass point to magnetic South? Magnetic South of course refer erring to the nether regions.

I wonder if Casey ever heard of St. Thomas Moore?

Split personality politicians should state the truth-- "I have no faith". http://www.realclearreligion.com

Somewhere in the last 10 years, the first amendment got changed from the government not meddling in religion to religion not meddling in government... I hope enough people care someday so we can change it back.

"split personality politicians should state the truth-"I have no faith."

So should the Catholic powers that be at CUA.

It seems Bob Casey, Jrs. real faith is self-serving expediency. He couldn't very well trash his father's great legacy on pro-life. But he is sure learning how to send signals to the left-liberal fruit on brie crowd about where his morals really lie. No wonder he is the favorite of donors who want Democrat Catholic candidates who will follow the Kennedy-Kerry Divine Right of Kings (Senators) morality charade.

Watch it. CUA is my alma mater, and like all schools it has a few bad apples. Its general principles, however, are very good.

And to think this man's father was one of the most Catholic politicians in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Robert Casey Sr., a man who was once booed from the senate floor to drown him out while speaking against the murder of the unborn. What shame junior here brings to his father's memory.

This Pennsylvania voter will be everything possible to see junior defeated.

If what you think and feel about issues doesn't matter to your votes, Mr. Casey, why on earth should we elect you instead of, say, your opponent? Or a robot, for that matter?

Let's face it: we don't have a republic anymore. We have an oligarchy. No one gets elected without either having a huge personal fortune or pandering to those who do. It's all about cash. So pandering to special interest groups is the wave of the future.

JFK started this baloney. Mario Cuomo perpetuated it. They threw Liberman under the bus, even though he went pro-abortion for them. Even if Casey gets the chance to do anything anti-abortion I doubt he will or he'll probably be finished too. They just hate Santorum so much they'll do almost anything to fool voters and get him out. I believe Terry McAwful went to Catholic University as well. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to influence him positively.

Sir Thomas More, the patron saint of lawyers, put it best. When asked about how he could forsake his duty to his King for the sake of his own private conscience, Thomas had this to say:

"When a statesman forsakes his own private conscience for the sake of his public duty, he leads his country on a short route to chaos."

Thank you for this post from another PA voter who won't be voting for Casey, Jr.

Yes the Greek Captcha is a joke

The Curt Jester

A former atheist who after spending forty years in the wilderness finds himself with both astonishment and joy a member of the Catholic Church. This blog presents my hopefully humorous and sometimes serious take on things religious, political, and whatever else crosses my mind.

My conversion story

Email Me:

Blessed Miguel Pro, S.J.

Known as "God's Jester" was a martyr for the faith and a man of wisdom, fun, tricks, poetry, song, and dance. Thus seemed an appropriate Patron Saint of this blog.
