Is this for real?

i don't get the reference... who is this guy?

The radio show I listen to talk about him occassionally. From what I gather, from sarcastic radio guys 3rd hand, is that Art Bell is a radio guy, kind of a crack-pot, believes in conspiracy theories and extraterrestrials. I clearly have no idea if any of this is true

Gee, Jeff, I thought the church was plumb full of oddballs once I had joined. But I guess there is always room for one more.

I wonder if this is, in any way, a weird fruit of his friendship with Malachi Martin? Ah, God is so good at using our mistakes for His glory!

Raphael, Art is (or was) a talk show host on a show that aired in the wee hours of the morning in most parts of the U.S. He would talk about flying saucers, chemical trails in the sky, the secret messages encoded backwards in our ordinary speech -- that sort of thing.

When I first moved to Florida, I had hip surgery, and I could not sleep well because of the pain. I was taking a lot of medication, and kept talk radio on all the time so that I would always know what day and time it was. I'm not sure that the houra and hours of Art Bell were any help to me in getting a clearer head!

WOW. I wonder if this is true. My slightly crazy aunt and uncle listened to his show and half the time I think they really believed all that conspiracy junk and oddball stuff and they are really devout Catholics. This would be kind of nice if it were true and he would tell his story. Although, he might end up being overly crazed about all of the mysticism and go a little crazy there. Also, hearing that he's become Catholic might drive some of his former fans to enter the Catholic Church, too (hmmm, good thing?).

Doesn't he still have air time ... Coast to coast runs into the wee hours were I live and occasionally I believe Art Bell was on w/a segment. Anyway, if he is still doing a show, I wonder if the tone of the show will change. There was some very weird authors spewing new age stuff in the past.

I used to listen to Art quite a bit when he was at his zenith. He has had some personal and health issues in the past years and had "retired" from the Coast to Coast show. I think these personal trials has led him to this conversion.

Now he is back on Weekends mostly. I heard him say the words on Sunday morning when I was just waking around 5am. (babytime) He said he has considered becoming Catholic for quite some time and he has attended his first Mass and thought it was beautiful. He plans on contacting the priest soon.

I am not surprised that he is moving towards Catholism. He is a very intelligent man, with curious mind. This is what led him to the bizarre in the past, and his has moderated recently.

I also enjoyed listening to Art when he was at his peak, right before the nuts at WWCR (shortwave station in Nashville TN USA) started telling people to call up and ask him if he had been molesting little boys. Turns out that he hadn't, hadn't even been investigated for it, but that his son had been molested by a teacher, and the whole thing led him to quit the gig in 2000. He was back on air in a few days, then off again when dealing with rehab for his son, then back again, then he finally retired for real on 1/1/2003 if I recall right. Then, he was back on hosting Saturday nights and Sunday nights. One thing that's curious to me is that his wife died in January of this year, and he's already remarried? I think it's really cool if it's a real story.

Well, this little bit of news flew under the radar here in this part of the world - I had to hear of it here.

Ray in the Philippines

I listen to Art from time to time and he is a joy to listen to. Ramona passed away suddenly in January and he still talks about her quite a bit. I also heard is thinking of becoming Catholic. So congratulations to him for finding his way to the truth. Remember there are a lot of prodigal sons throughout the world and we do not recover all of them.

The Curt Jester

A former atheist who after spending forty years in the wilderness finds himself with both astonishment and joy a member of the Catholic Church. This blog presents my hopefully humorous and sometimes serious take on things religious, political, and whatever else crosses my mind.

Known as "God's Jester" was a martyr for the faith and a man of wisdom, fun, tricks, poetry, song, and dance. Thus seemed an appropriate Patron Saint of this blog.
