Podcast Reviews Part II

Here are reviews of some Catholic podcasts I listen to. These are in addition to the ones I reviewed here.

The Saint Cast This is a weekly podcast the covers the saints for each day of the week with a spotlight on a specific saint. This is an outstanding podcast that is beautifully produced by a doctor. Though he humorously quips like Scotty "I'm a doctor, not a theologian." The information is very well presented he he has a great voice to listen to. He started out with an great episode on Padre Pio and has continued the pace.

On one episode he mentioned the story of St Genesius patron saint of actors and clowns and possibly court jesters and he wondered if he might be my patron saint. Well I think I will have to add him to my sidebar as a patron. I'll take on all the help I can get. Especially cool suggestion since I grew up in the theater with my father who was an actor and puppeteer and did a lot of acting roles myself before joining the Navy.

Bible In A Year This podcast produced by Rick Jacobo is available five days of week and goes through the entire Bible. The readings start with the Old Testament, something from the Psalms or Proverbs, and then the New Testament. I like to listen to it before going to sleep. Mainly hoping that I will soak up scripture all the better.

Digital Audio Deli This is a podcast from Fr. Stan Fortuna who is part of Fr. Benedict Groeschel's Franciscan Friars of the Renewal. Most know Fr. Fortuna through his music ministry. He uses modern music and I believe mainly rap as a tool to evangelize and break the ice as he speaks on the faith. Though he doesn't do this in the context of the Mass, but in a separate ministry. The podcasts themselves are a series of talks given in his own unique way.

Catholic Exchange Today A weekly podcast with John Morales features interviews, apologetics, information and catechesis on the Catholic Faith. The show covers the news of the week, has good interviews, and regular speakers such as Dr. Marcellino D'Ambrosio.

Into The Deep Three men in a roundtable discussion talk about the spiritual life. The description from their site says:

Into The Deep is a podcast designed to be a resource to those who wish to spread the saving message of Jesus Christ as faithfully transmitted by the Church. This means that it is applicable to every Baptized Christian, as we all share a common commission to evangelize the world.

This is a very good show that discusses the interior life and the common problems we all share in trying to grow in holiness.

Praystation Portable This podcast by Jeff Vista has the morning and evening prayer from the Divine Office. I was aware of this podcast, but didn't listen to it since I already read these prayers from the four volume set of the Divine Office. One day though when I woke up late I decided to download an episode so that I could listen to the morning prayer on the way to work. After that I started to listen to it while reading the office. I found that it helped me to concentrate and meditate better instead of just rushing through the office. He uses the same version of the Divine Office as commonly used in the United States so you can easily read along with it.

Heart, Mind & Strength Radio takes their radio show and offers it as a podcast which is available a couple times a week. Greg Popcak and his wife Lisa cover a range of subjects but mainly concentrate on family life and answer phone calls giving their advice.. They also have guests such as Mark Shea and Steven D. Greydanus of DecentFilms.com.

Catholic Answers Live. Yes Catholic Answers is finally podcasting their shows. I have been listening to Catholic Answers Live pretty much from the time their shows first came on the radio before I had entered the Church. They are now up to two hours a day, but they podcast each one hour show separately.

The Cafeteria is Closed Gerald Augustinus of the blogs with the same name has so far mainly concentrated on a series introducing the Latin of the Mass, St. John of the Cross, and the Paster noster.

There are probably other good Catholic podcasts I am not aware of, but the ones I covered this time and the last time are one I consistently listen to.

I do listen to some non-Catholic podcasts like TWIT (This Week In Technology) and some other geek shows hosted by Leo Laporte. I also like Star Trek: The Section 31 Files which is a fairly good Star Trek audio fan fiction podcast. The plots are interesting and the show is well done.

Shouldn't TWIT be "This Week in Theology," brought to you by Georgetown, Notre Dame, and the CTSA?

I've been using Praystation Portable since you turned me on to it. Thanks. :)

Yes the Greek Captcha is a joke

The Curt Jester

A former atheist who after spending forty years in the wilderness finds himself with both astonishment and joy a member of the Catholic Church. This blog presents my hopefully humorous and sometimes serious take on things religious, political, and whatever else crosses my mind.

My conversion story

Email Me:

Blessed Miguel Pro, S.J.

Known as "God's Jester" was a martyr for the faith and a man of wisdom, fun, tricks, poetry, song, and dance. Thus seemed an appropriate Patron Saint of this blog.
