Scratching my head on this one

A school has been attacked for offering pregnancy tests to girls as young as 11 - without telling their parents it was setting up the scheme.

The initiative is intended to reduce teenage pregnancies in the surrounding area, which has one of the highest rates in Britain. [Source][Via Jay Anderson]

Has a time machine recently been invented?

I don't see how pregnancy tests are going to help reduce teen pregnancy.
The parents not being told is pretty shocking too.
Very dissapointing...

What does the school plan to do when a pregnant test is positive?

They'll "reduce" the number of pregnancies after the fact by terminating them, perhaps. The article Jeff linked to says that last April a school arranged for a 14 year old girl to have an abortion without her mother's knowledge.

This is why I'm generally uneasy whenever we are told that there are fewer teen pregnancies. Does this just mean "fewer teen pregnancies resulting in a live birth, thanks to abortion?"

Similar to reducing poverty by reducing the number of poor by means of sterilization, birth control and abortion.

Yep, that's exactly what the article says. Because if the girls don't know until it shows, their "options" will be reduced to what their parents say.
Kids have a natural desire to hide things to prevent trouble, and the school has an easier time tricking or browbeating the kids into submission if their parents aren't in the equation.

Time machine... HA ha ha...

Abortion doesn't prevent pregnancy. If anything it gives them more time to get pregnant more often. I agree with Lynn, these statistics are shady. Live births may be down, but sex is probably up.

This wouldn't even be considered if pop culture propaganda was not pushed on 11 year olds. If parents weren't the wimpy, liberal, how-dare-I-impose-my-morals-on-my-child types, then perhaps people wouldn't really have a say. And you know, pregnancy tests don't prevent pregnancy, so I do wonder what they'll do if the test comes out positive... probably send the kid to Planned Barrenhood to have the "problem" removed.

And they'll film the abortion for some documentary and put it on television, and in the early screenings crowds of bizarre death-loving people will give this documentary a standing ovation. "Go forth and become extinct" shall be the whole of the law.

I feel a bit like I'm doing the Time Warp again in the Rocky Horror Picture Show (which, oddly, I've never seen completely let alone participated with the audience theatre antics!).

We have here parents who object at not being informed of pregnancy tests offered to their 11 year old girls in a nation (similar to the U.S.) who chiefly objects to legislation that informs a parent of her impending abortion.

Huh?

Yes the Greek Captcha is a joke
