Recruiting posters for the Church Militant

Comments (15) | TrackBacks (1)

The Church is traditionally divided into the Church Militant (Ecclesia Militans), comprising Christians who are living, and the Church Triumphant (Ecclesia Triumphans), comprising those who are in Heaven, the Church Suffering (ecclesia penitens) or Church Expectant (ecclesia expectans), comprising those presently in Purgatory. Now as an ex-Navy Recruiter I thought hey why can't we have some of those snappy slogans often employed by the military in advertisement for the Church Militant? So I have taken some of those slogans I have remembered through the years and applied them for Church Militant. recruitment purposes.

And here is one to encourage scripture reading.

Here is a post I did a couple years ago imagining a boot camp for the Church Militant.

Can I steal your Uncle S... uh, the Jesus recruiting poster?

LOVE IT!!

Lisa

Hah! I love it--especially the "I want you" poster and the "Flying High" with St. Joseph Cupertino (to whom, incidentally, I often pray when studying for the Bar exam...)

I like "The Few The Humble The Saints" ... great posters. i'm going to pass this link along to our deacon.

These are awesome! I'm thinking of, unless you disaprove, of printing out a bunch of these at the copy-center on campus (Michigan State!) and plaster some message boards.
Pax

Jeff, if you printed these on poster stock, I would buy them. They are brilliant. And my parish is St. Joseph of Cupertino-- I bet the pastor would get a kick out of it.

I loved the flying high one! They're great posters. I wonder how many new recruits we could get?

Jeff, if you come up with one from the Navy my son said he would post it in the Petty Officer quarters where he lives. What'cha got?

Wonderful! I love these -- you're really good with the clever visual cut-and-paste work like this. Keep it up!

I second Margaret! I would buy these, too, and plaster them all over our church hall. Outstanding!

Lucy,

Actually the last one is based on the Navy's motto from the 70s and early 80s "It's more than just a job, it's an adventure.

Chris,

I have no problem if you print out my work to post.

I'm enlisting right now to become a DEFENDER OF THE FAITH!

Well, actually I am, but on occasion I go AWOL and have to re-enlist via Confession.

Jeff, can I be a Recruitment Officer?? Our MRE's provide everlasting sustenance, and though sometimes we complain our drill sargeants (priests, sisters and bishops*) put us through tough paces... we know it's to condition us for the battle to gain the Ultimate Victory. In all branches of our military, we are provided the very best protection from the slings and arrows of the enemy: the Bible, the sacraments, your guardian angel, the rosary, etc. But should you become wounded in battle, or turn traitorous and join the enemy camp, Reconcilliation, Anointing of the Sick and Divine Mercy are always the ideal equipment.

*I'm not sure of the bishop's rank... would they be the Chief of Staff??

Jeff, right you are! I did not pick up on that. They are all so good. Well done!

Teresa dear, the last time the Church granted someone the title of "Defender of the Faith", he ended up taking himself into sin, his country into apostasy, and killing Catholics wherever he could find them. British monarchs still carry the title "Defensor Fidei" originally awarded by the Pope, although most people now take it to mean Defender of the Anglican "faith" (Jeff, not a bad subject for a full parody itself...! hint hint). Now, being a good girl, you'll doubtless not want to persist further with this...

Maybe those posters featuring Christ the Lord should say: I Want You All - And I know who you all are...

How about:

Wanna be Different?
Wanna Stand Out?
Wanna Do Something the Whole World will Despise you for?

Become A Catholic!

Inspired work!
Beautiful beyond words!

Aw shucks, Jack's right. Defender of the Faith had a nice ring to it until Henry went and ruined it for everyone. Adolf spoiled that wee square mustache look for generations too.

I'll settle for the rank of Private (intentions)Teresa.
