Judging a book
Apparent due to a skeptical comment I had previously left at Speculative Catholic about Anne Rice's new book "Christ the Lord, Out of Egypt" Anne Rice left a comment in reply. Perhaps I am guilty of judging a book not by its cover, but by a single review. So I look forward for a review by Steve at Speculative Catholic since he has ordered it. Since I have read and enjoyed most of her books it would be nice to read this one also without theologically flinching.
It does make me want to contrast the Vampire Lestat and the Jesus contrast. Lestat maintained eternal life by living off of he blood of his victims. Jesus became a victim for us and gives us eternal life by his most Precious Blood. Lestat could only live in the Dark and Jesus is the Light. Lestat could not bear the cross and Jesus bore the cross.

I wish she'd waited a little longer to write this book. It's too soon after her reversion to get this deep into theological waters. Saul didn't start preaching immediately after being knocked from his horse and St. Francis didn't start the Franciscans until some time after his first spark of fervor.
Anyway, I wish Anne Rice well. She's had a tragedy filled life. Hopefully she's found peace and this book will actually do some good.
If anyone has ever read the books "City of God" by Mary of Agreda, this book by Anne Rice would piss you off.
I know it's fiction, but from what I've read it's so ridiculous it makes Jesus out to be some "Harry Potter" type.

From what I've read, she returned to the church in 1998, which isn't the day before yesterday.
Like Jeff, I was initially rather skeptical about this news. But it occurred to me I was doing exactly what so annoyed me when the numerous critics of TPOTC did it - judging and condemning it before it's even hit the bookstores.
